About the Author Randall Alvin Sorbel was born in 1941 in Devils Lake, North Dakota. Randall is a decorated Marine Infantry Officer who served in the Vietnam War, and graduated from Eastern Washington University. He is a teacher, real-estate investor, and income and residential property manager. He has two children and several grandchildren, and lives in Orange County, California.

It was honestly like reading through my own family history, and I laughed out loud at the mentions of Randy's childhood antics - what a joy to read! Buying a couple copies for my own grandchildren as well!
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great Research By Paul Peterson I loved his honesty about his youth and growing up in a small town. It was also interesting about his time in the service. Most of all I liked what he said to his son Scott and grandchildren what a legacy for them.

In just two sittings on one Saturday night I devoured this enthralling book of Randall Sorbel’s life story. The Cowards Stayed Home beautifully delivered an uplifting and inspirational message that life is entirely what you make of it. Some of the core tenets include the importance of vision, perseverance, courage and self-reliance. This message of self-reliance and the earned life was particularly key. As Mr. Sorbel put it, “I was not a helpless victim. In fact, this mentality made life less stressful because it was I who would determine how far I could go on my journey.”My favorite quote comes in Chapter 4 when Mr. Sorbel recounts , “In retrospect, a sense of invincibility was our constant companion, as bullets simply didn’t carry our names as targets. Determination of the mind is the true armor.”Ultimately, the Cowards Stayed Home, was a highly enjoyable book which left me feeling inspired and compelled to tackle my own challenges and create the life that I have imagined.
