She meets Nick, a total a-hole, who happens to be part of that wealthy family. My issue was with the writing. It felt very juvenile to me. I just didn't connect with it at all. I had issues with how Nick kept repeatedly telling Sky how poor she was and how she means less than nothing to anyone. She sits there and takes it. And then there was this part.....Sky agrees to go out to dinner with Nick. He's in a $2000 suit (because he yells that part out at her) and drives a BMW. Sky wants to go to Burger King and he says "But I drive a BMW!!!" And the author writes that the drive thru worker's eyes were big, no doubt a result of seeing a BMW at the window. Ok....I can't afford a BMW but it's not like he was driving a freaking Rolls Royce!!! Really??? A big deal over a BMW? Ugh. Sky is the nanny but never seems to do anything. Nick is bipolar or something because he flips out and belittles Sky every chance he gets. The romance....there wasn't any. The "romantic" parts were so forced, it was painful to read. It was both of them acting like immature brats. I'm sorry to the author but this book was awful in my honest opinion.

I enjoyed the story well enough; however, the characters were a tough pill to take at times. Honestly, Nick and Sky were difficult to like both separately and together, especially together ... at least until the end of the story. Nick was mean and a bit misogynistic. Other than his eternal appearance, there was nothing that should have drawn Sky to him. Nothing. She didn't know how he was *removing details about the big story reveal* so she didn't know how sweet and kind he could be. Nick's tendency to run away when things got difficult for him got tiresome. He was quite mercurial with his emotional swings. And Sky was only slightly better. She allowed Nick to jerk her around and treat her terribly mean because he couldn't face his feelings. Instead of walking away she sulked and eagerly waited for him to come back again. BAH! I chalk it up to her being a 21-year old but boy was it annoying. The supporting characters, minus Chloe, made the story for me because they were all so likeable.

I always enjoy Komal Kant's books but Beneath Him exceeded all of my expectations. It's an incredible journey - both intense and heartbreaking. As Madeline's new nanny, Sky jumped at the chance for a new opportunity to relocate but she had no idea what was waiting for her in Beverly Hills. Sky grew up in a completely different world than the Ruggarsons. She was as an only child, raised by a single parent - she is sassy and real, valuing honesty, family and hard work. She loves her job but isn't sure of the new materialistic environment she lives in.One aspect that Sky certainly was not prepared for was Nicholas. He is a hot mess but Sky doesn't know if it's because he's a spoiled, arrogant rich kid or if he is struggling with something deeper and more painful. All she truly knows is that he is a angry man burying himself in alcohol and meaningless sex. Further more, Sky has no clue why his family is protecting and sheltering Nick - why they make excuses for his atrocious behavior and choices. She refuses to do the same for him.Every time these two interact there are verbal fireworks. It's awesome. Their conversations are filled with angry, rude remarks and lots of sexual tension. It leaves you to wonder if they will ever get past hiding behind sarcastic words and deal with their emotional and trust issues. It feels important that they do because Sky is developing real feelings for Nick and her bitter words are reaching hard truths within him.Their relationship results in book filled with anticipation. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for so many moments. For Sky and Nick to give into their feelings. To find out the big family secret. To understand all of the various relationships and their complexities. I was waiting for the bottom to drop out and to see how the author would resolve it all. I was not disappointed and I loved every minute of Beneath Him.I devoured Sky and Nick's book and I would definitely recommend it.
