Cooper Harrison, a member of the Boston K-9 unit, never thought he would ever go back to his hometown, Harmony Farms. But when his faithful canine partner, Argos, is killed in the line of duty, Cooper finds himself mired in grief. Jobless, on the verge of a divorce, and in a self-destructive rut, Cooper has little choice but to accept an offer for the position of animal control officer in Harmony Farms.

And so he finds himself back where he started. Where his father, Bull, was once known as the town drunk. Where his brother, Jimmy, was a delinquent and bully. Where he grew up as "one of those" Harrisons. Forced to face the past while dealing with the present-including his brother's continued involvement in the drug business-Cooper does his job with deliberate detachment, refusing to get emotionally invested in another dog the way he had with Argos. Until he finds himself trying to rescue a wounded and gun-shy yellow Lab gone feral...

Cooper never thought he'd find himself going back in order to move forward, yet Harmony Farms is the one place where Cooper must learn to forgive and, only then, to heal. All with the help of a yellow dog, who has a history-and secrets-that Cooper must uncover.

I am an animal lover. I liked the characters, particularly Cooper, though I had interest for most of the others, too. I thought the storylines, and flashbacks to childhood were effectively written and gave depth to the story. I enjoyed going with Cooper on his job - the ornery donkey made me smile and I felt for the woman who had too many cats. The suffering of the abused dog seemed to reflect the suffering of Cooper; I can see and understand meaning (and the need and hope for healing) in this book. I liked the book in the beginning; I was involved and interested. After awhile, though, there was just something about how the story unfolded (timing?), and certain things that happen and the way they happen, that I didn't much like. I'm not saying the book is bad. I'm just saying there are some books that connect with and capture the reader; this didn't happen for me.

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Worth Reading, Especially For Dog Lovers! By Bobbewig Having read Susan Wilson's One Good Dog, The Dog Who Danced and A Man Of His Own, each of which I gave 5 star ratings, I was concerned about how her latest book, The Dog Who Saved Me, would measure up. Well, I have to say that while I wouldn't rate it quite as high as those books, I do consider it to be a very good book that deserves a large reading audience.I know when some of my Amazon Friends see I've written another review about a book that features a dog, they are going to dismiss this book from their consideration (and possibly me as well). That will be their loss. But if you are a "dog person" do yourself a favor and put The Dog Who Saved Me on your reading list. I think you'll find it to be a well-written, emotional book with a cast of characters -- of course, one of which is a dog you'll really care about (and perhaps even more than about the people characters) -- that will hold your interest from the first to the last page.I won't summarize the plot as you can find out what The Dog Who Saved Me is about from the Amazon Book Description above. I'll just say that it is a heartwarming novel about a very special dog and the human lives he touches. I think you'll find that this book will make you feel things that at times will have you laughing and at other times feeling quite sad (perhaps to the point that you might want to have some tissues by your side). And, very importantly, it will make feel glad you decided to read this moving book. Is it perfect? No. Is it predictable? Yes. But, I think your overall reaction, like mine, will be "who cares."Now, having given The Dog Who Saved Me the praise it deserves you might be asking yourself -- why the 4 star and not the 5 star rating that I gave to Wilson's other books? The reason has to do the level of intensity in regards to plot development, character development and narrative. For me, in each of Wilson's other book, her plots and narrative were even more emotionally-charged and touching and her characters were even more fully developed -- to the point that I still remember them long after having finished the books. Please do not take this as a "knock" against The Dog Who Saved Me. It is not intended to be. What it is intended to do, if you haven't already done so, is to encourage you to not only read The Dog Who Saved Me but to read Wilson's three previous books mentioned at the beginning of this review.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. highly recommended read from a very gifted author... By Virginia Campbell Superlative storyteller Susan Wilson tells a compelling, poignant, and ultimately uplifting tale in "The Dog Who Saved Me". While the story does not flinch away from abuse, hardships, and tragedy, it also celebrates survivorship and the triumph of the spirit, both human and animal. At the heart of it all is an extremely well-written, well-paced police story. Cooper Harrison thought he had left his troubled youth behind when he moved from small-town Harmony Farms to become an officer in a Boston K-9 unit. Unable to overcome his grief when beloved canine partner Argos is killed in a bombing incident, Cooper tries to drink away his sorrow and come to grips with the physical limitations of his own injuries. When his marriage and career come to an end, a call from an old friend, now the police chief of Harmony Farms, offers Cooper a chance to start over. He never imagined he would end up as the Animal Control Officer back in his home town, but that's just where he lands. Now he has to face his father, Bull, known as the town drunk, and his older brother, Jimmy, fresh out of prison after serving time on drug charges. Cooper's work as an animal control officer is vastly different from his duties as K-9 unit officer. He's now a lawman, a handyman, a counselor, a psychologist--both for humans and animals, and he's a tracker, a super-sleuth, and much, much more. Along the way he begins a romance with lovely woman, Natalie, who rescues and rehabs horses and has her own set of emotional issues. Linking all of these people together, in ways never anticipated, is a yellow dog. Not just any dog, but a purebred yellow Lab, a victim of abuse, and a survivor of severe hardship. It will take all of Cooper's skill, intelligence, and innate compassion to capture and revitalize this dog, but eventually dog and man will offer to each other the gift of hope. The characters are beautifully-layered and shaded--definitely beyond stereotypes--and you may find yourself rethinking some of your own relationships with others. The storyline is so involving that it will keep you intrigued until the last page is turned, and you will be thinking about all you've read far beyond "The End". With "The Dog Who Saved Me" author Susan Wilson reminds us that while some people are habitually rotten, beneath the crust of the crustiest humans there beats a heart, and above that heart is brain with a surprising variety and depth of thoughts. A highly recommended read from a very gifted author.

A mesmerizing performance by Egypt Raab, a genius moment of betrayal at its highest level. Unique, original, and mind-blowing strings of plots, superb adulthood connection, from decades of revenge. Increasingly misplaced trust and all principals of life are ignored then erased, frequently manipulated with the description of deceit written within. Sophisticated and seductive along with a wide range of surprising exposures. Millions of tons of currency globally respected and virtually untouchable. Contaminated friendships. Dangerous and insidious gripping moments, created burdens by corrupted resources. Anti-terror from a woman who's overwhelmed by greed and power. She directly rules with an iron fist and mimics the path of all those who dare to conquer, while sensitive positioning landed her on the top. To be changed into the bad, wouldn't begin to come close when attempting to sum up this evil, twisted format of survival.

Somebody Lied, by Keith Parker

About the Author My name is Keith C. Parker. I was born in New York. In 2006, I had a life-changing experience, and from that experience, I was able to receive a donor's organ, a heart. Since my heart transplant, I've done numerous radio guest appearances. Dr. Oz of the Dr. Oz show hosted the documentary entitled Transplant, in which I was one of the three recipients that were documented. I recently recorded a public announcement song titled "Babies RIP" which turned out to be extremely helpful to people who forget that their children were left in the car with the windows were rolled completely up at a miserable hundred-plus degree weather. That public announcement by far was the highlight of my existence. As I create stories with the hopes of one day seeing my work among the many vanguards that also write novels, it gives me a sense of the grandest level of respect to the commodity of people that orchestrate the publishing of books. My connections with the stories that I present to you come from a single thought that's within a thought.

The testimony of her relationship with God and how her faith in him got her through such terrible circumstances was something sh By Sharon Allen I thought this book was such an inspiration and should be to other readers as well, The testimony of her relationship with God and how her faith in him got her through such terrible circumstances was something she should be very proud of. Such a courageous author that really shows us how surrendering all to God can help us overcome our past as well. Good job Cindy!

I was worried the struggles would be too depressing, but really the book just turned them into opportunities for the reader to find strength as a result of all the challenges life gives us. I especially enjoyed the chapters on "Embracing Rock Bottom" and "The Power of Letting Go" because it is so hard not to dwell on the difficulties. The author shares her experiences and mistakes and what she had to overcome to be the person she is today. A must read if you are feeling down or just can't fathom why you are struggling!

The lessons shared in this book are integral to a successful career for both males and females. The great courage it took Cindy to share such a personal testimony is truly inspiring. What I enjoyed about the book most was the transparency. There was no sugar coating or seemingly perfect progression in her book. It is a real life journey of ups and downs along with lessons learned of how to triumph over any obstacle you may be faced with through strong faith!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Un viaje a Monzambique y Portugal. By Costumer Mozambique y Portugal. De estos países solo he conocido las islas Azores de Portugal, cuyas costumbres y mucho de su estilo de vida, construcciones y monumentos, evocan a esa tierra compartida con España. Tampoco he visitado nunca Mozambique.

HOPE. HORROR. HEARTACHE.

There’s a little of each fated for all of us…

Asher’s world is a small one, bound by the conventions forced upon its people by an oppressive invader. But not everyone is content with their lot… A number of rebellious and independent women have grouped together, struggling against the might of the Grey Men. Asher is fearless but often it is too late once she realises danger is near. Women have always been secondary citizens in Venture, but under their new rulers Venture’s menfolk too, and even the Oracle — the fantastic phenomenon at the centre of the city’s life — and its adherents are subjugated. Everyone will be forced to work harder and harder against injustice merely to pay the tithe that their ruthless oppressors demand. People are driven to terrible actions and suffer insurmountable struggles… Asher is deeply suspicious of the Oracle but it still speaks and on Fair Day she is called to hear its message. Reluctantly she confronts her greatest fear — that the course of her life may have been mapped in stone — and a spectre from her past. But now, what she has always feared may present an unexpected chance to salvage her country’s future. Asher must learn to listen to her instinct and face her fears if she is to save herself and her friends. She strives to set a new precedent not only for herself but for women everywhere, running against the tide of opinion and daring to challenge the authorities. Yet great sacrifices are made if the world is to be changed for good… ‘Fate’ is a spellbinding fantasy tale about one woman’s chance to save her people from the darkest throes of oppression. ‘Exceedingly enjoyable’ Goodreads reviewer Mary Corran was born the younger daughter of an art historian and an Aegean Archeologist, which may explain the influence of Greek culture and history on her fantasy novels. Instead of pursuing an academic career, she decided to be a child of the seventies and travel overland to India and back. The need to develop a career sent her back to university to read History at Oxford, and marry a fellow student. After working in the City as an oil analyst for ten years, Mary went on to write the fantasy trilogy Imperial Light, Darkfell and Fate, which Venture Press will be publishing. Also available, a memoir chronicling her years of illness, Wasteland. She currently lives in Eastbourne, United Kingdom, where she is writing a new novel. Venture Press is a science fiction and fantasy imprint of Endeavour Press, the UK’s leading independent digital publisher.
