Five people will soon have their lives dramatically changed in ways none of them could have ever expected only days before. An inside racetrack tip, a stolen F-150, a visit to an old friend, and a mother-daughter road trip lead five people on intertwining journeys that begin deep in the heart of Texas and culminate in the once-glamorous resort town of Hot Springs, Arkansas. At the Settle Inn, their journeys intersect for one fateful night. For one woman and one man in particular, a chain of events will set in motion what will become the most important trip of their lives. Jenny Lynn Lancing is trapped in an unfulfilling present and haunted by her past. John Sanders is a man who can't run away from his past or his mistakes. Their unexpected road trip sets both on new paths, in search of the long-lost keys to their own lives. Along the way, as they come to terms with broken promises and unfulfilled potential, they face decisions with unpredictable consequences. Each will be set free. Both hope for a rare second chance. Within a story of everyday people, told with poignancy and wry wit, The Settle Inn, is an entertaining tale of hope, discovery, recovery, and renewal.

I chose to read it over the weekend and flew right through it. Richard does a great job of portraying the insanity an alcoholic goes through and how a person's alcoholism affects their loved ones. He also incorporates recovery into this book, which is something that hit close to home.Aside from this, I was impressed with his clever descriptions of certain places and landmarks throughout the book. For example, in regards to the new face of the Oak Cliff area of Dallas ("It was a good neighborhood if you wanted to be anonymous, a feat still possible in spite of the gentrification spreading south of I-30 and into Oak Cliff, which had brought an influx of yuppie families and tragically chic hipsters fleeing Dallas's suburban sprawl in search of faux-urban living"). Being from Dallas, this line cracked me up - and yes, it is so true.I hope to see more work from this up-and-coming author. After reading The Settle Inn, I was wanting more. This author has a way of drawing in the reader and keeping the reader focused on the story at hand the whole way through. He's not afraid to show the dirty side of alcoholism - something very real. Keep up the good work, Richard. Give us more!A+Go buy this book!
