A collection of fascinating life-lessons from Australia's favorite storyteller, including insights from his final months.
Each of us has a place to return to in our minds, a place of clarity and peace, a place to think, to create, to dream. For Bryce Courtenay this place was a waterhole in Africa where he used to escape to as a boy, in search of solitude. One evening, while lingering there, he witnessed the tallest of the great beasts drinking from the waterhole in the moonlight, and was spellbound. Ever since, he drew inspiration from this moment.
The Silver Moon gathers together some of the most personal and sustaining life-lessons from Australia's favorite storyteller. In short stories and insights, many written in his final months, Bryce reflects on living and dying, and how through determination, respect for others and taking pleasure in small moments of joy, he lived life to the fullest.
From practical advice on how to write a bestseller to general inspiration on how to realise your dreams, The Silver Moon celebrates Bryce Courtenay's lifelong passion for storytelling, language and the creative process, and brings us closer to the man behind the bestsellers.

Disappointing By by grace Contains useful insights, but is really just a collection of articles that he has written in newspapers and periodicals before, rather than a book filled with fresh ideas. I was expecting something a bit better organised, with fresh insights and conclusions from reflections on his life and hoping to see a little more of what makes this great writer tick, but was disappointed. I may as well have googled articles on this man and spent an hour reading that instead. The main point you can take away from this book is that it is important to reflect often and to be true to yourself and kind to others. There is little other substance. I feel this is a publisher's grab for money now that Courtenay has passed. It would be a much better use of money to buy and read his well-known works of fiction instead.

"The Silver Moon" I wish was in hard copy to add to my collection. Numerous essays and short stories both interesting and poignant. especially the one about his "use by date".
