At over 200,000 words, the third entry in the bestselling Hasea Chronicles is the biggest, boldest and most brutal yet. Forming the first part in the thrilling conclusion to the series, The Veil takes the action and emotion to an unprecedented new scale, as Alex, Gabriella and the Guardians of Orion face their darkest and most epic adventure yet.

The Veil has finally been crossed. Alex, Gabriella and the Guardians of Orion have arrived in Fenodara, a beautiful Luminar city that acts as the last beacon of hope for a dying civilisation - but also a place that hides a dark secret. Never before have they been so close to the Ageless War and witnessed the way it corrupts not only the fading world, but also those who live there. Soon afterwards, a devastating attack on the city rips Orion apart. Broken and defeated, the Guardians are forced to separate and travel through the dark underbelly of Pandemonia in a desperate attempt to save those they love, and stop the forces of Hades before it is too late. However, the longer Alex spends in the dark and hostile world, the more a single fact becomes clear to him. This is a journey they might never return from. We finally get a chance to visit Pandemonia, a world ravaged by the Ageless War, as Alex and his team seek out his long lost father. It's been fun watching this story grow and expanded in scale. Starting off primarily in a small town in England for the first novel, and then expanding in the second novel to areas all around England and a trip to South America. Now we visit a whole new world, full of a variety of creatures and cultures. A world being destroyed by war as the last strongholds fight for their survival. Even the last strongholds have dark undercurrents though as the Ageless War takes its toll on the people and their souls.I enjoyed this latest novel immensely. Meczes has definitely grown as an author and you can see it in the scope and vision of this novel.SPOILERS BELOWThis story was awesome. There was plenty of action as Alex and crew engage the hostile forces in this new world. Great drama as the team tries to come to terms with the dark undercurrents of Fenodara, Gabrielle's abduction and the journey to save her. We finally get to learn more about Delagio and his checkered past. I was happy to see Scarlett come into play in this novel, especially after reading Without a Heartbeat (definitely recommend if you haven't read it yet). I like the fact that even though there are a number of great characters, the scope of the story is limited to just three. Any more and the story starts to get diluted. There were elements in the second novel that were a little predictable, but in this one I was caught in a few twists I didn't see coming. I was fooled right along with Gabrielle when the Physicker tried to help her “escape” and when Yeth reappeared. I like the fact that even though Alex has this new awesome power, it doesn't make him invincible or flawless. There are still limits to his strength and endurance. I though it was well done that even though Pandemonia is full of creatures of myth and legend, they are more technologically advanced then Earth. There are definitely steam punk like elements or places (like Concavious), but it makes sense considering the war and its impact on the world. The mystery of the Reapers and the blood veil as me eager for the next novel. The mark of a great author is one who can create that sense of eagerness and excitement in his books. Meczes definitely delivers in that regard. Well done.

I like how they work together and make each other better as operatives, they also challenge each other if they don't agree. it's not all swoon eyes and kissy faces.Second you get to know some of the other members better to ,learning about del was one of the many highlights.Negatives, the actions there but it isn't, there's tons of action in the book from start to finish someone is dieng, crimson, and or the blood brothers are wielding destruction, and a path of Gore through the whole story. But in those action sequences you get a lot of description,it like that through the whole story, one jump is an entire paragraph of what's going on in his body, head sometimes it felt unnecessary and took away from the scene itself. also the constant description of the areas around the it was sometimes a big sensory overload,I had a hard time pain thing a picture of the landscape he was trying to build. The only other thing g is there not really a large scale boss battle I thought we get and the end of the book. There's a lot that's gonna happen in book four I hope he can wrap it up nicely,at this point there's 5 or 6 major things that need to be concluded

By Chester Bennington Following on where we left off in book 2, The Veil continues the adventures of Alex et al as we finally get to glimpse the world of Pandemonia.Without giving away any plot, the book continues forward in an evolution of maturity and the result is a much darker story with darker themes. The evocative action sequences of the first two books are still present but this book also offers a refreshingly more political approach in looking at the society of this unfamiliar land and how, in a world ravaged by war, there is no black and white - only grey. To me, this is the Wheel of Time or Game of Thrones of the HASEA Chronicles - something I enjoyed a lot. It builds upon what was good in the first two books and adds another layer to both the story and the world, an exercise in verisimilitude which works very well.I finished this book satisfied that I'd learned a lot of new things about the world and central story but also with the feeling that there is still so much more to be explained - as is usually the case with book series.Overall, the author's writing style and storytelling abilities have clearly evolved since the first book and what we have ended up with is a very well rounded and complete experience that will lead you wanting more.
