Finding Emma is a fantastic story of adventure and love intertwined with the true historical events of the 1860s American West and the clash of white and Native American cultures. The fictional couple, Bob and Emma, like thousands of emigrants, is thrust into this sometimes violent period, where their strength of character, their hope, and their love for each other get tested by the transforming events brought on by the civil war and the clash of white and Native cultures on the Great Plains. While many of the historical events of this period have been recorded, the lives and stories of many thousands of Native Americans, mountain men, traders, freighters, emigrants, farmers, and soldiers have been lost to history. This book invites you to follow the trials and tribulations of our fictional couple as they travel on the Santa Fe Trail to the emerging trading markets of the Southwest, only to be derailed by renegade Comanche and Sioux who attack their wagon train and change their lives forever. The story is set against the actual historical events and places of the period and will keep you spellbound until the dramatic and violent conclusion of Bob and Emma's odyssey.

EMMA's sprawling tale is a solid epic, and screenworthy By By Mark Braun With a keen eye on detail and a landscape of historic fact, this fictionalized story is based on actual people and real events.THe killing of settlers and the kidnapping of young Emma and her siblings push her sweetheart, Bob, to make a promise to bring her back. Raised in the East as a gunsmith's assistant and tester of weapons, Bob's ability to shoot with deadly accuracy finds him a new reputation as an Indian killer; as his youthful innocence gradually drains away, the hardened and relentlessly driven Bob traverses a West that would stop most men. Taught by mountain men and scouts, Bob continues his quest to rescue his love Emma, despite the often warned advice to turn back and just go East again. The climatic end, and a tale this big has to have its well-deserved confrontation, is as satisfying as it is heroic. Here is a thrilling and highly-detailed western read, reminiscent of John Ford's SEARCHERS and Larry McMurtry's LONESOME DOVE and an expansively big yarn that will keep the reader enthralled from cover to cover. For a first novel, it's a beautifully constructed labor of love; If there's room for a sequel, for heaven's sake, there are still kidnapped women and children out thar. Strap on them irons and saddle up.Regarding the Kindle edition, as there are no page numbers, it measures against a reader's speed. If you're as nuts as I was to reach the end, those hours will melt off obsessively. EMMA is one hell of a read.

I could not put it down once I started reading it!! Why isn't this book on the New York Times Best Seller list??? It is more than just an excellent western novel, it is also a story of how whites and natives were both fighting for the land and how they lived their lives in the West. It is also one of the great love stories of its time - - - how a young man endured, and how a young woman survived, in the times when life on the frontier was a dangerous place to be. A tremendously well researched novel, filled with the actual events of the mid-1860's, and a novel that pulls the reader into its story in such a way as if you feel you are living those events as they unfold. I hope Hollywood makes a movie of this book - - - it will be a blockbuster for sure. Worth reading, not just once, but over and over. BRAVO to the author, and I hope he writes another book soon.

I truly got lost in this story because the characters were so believable. I felt I was back in the mid-1800s myself while reading this book. Yes, I was spellbound by it all. There is a place now for all the Indians, emigrants, farmers, traders, soldiers, etc. who lived during this period to have their stories told, and this book is the place.
