By Kindle Customer This would seem at the beginning of the story to be something primarily appropriate for techies, but it rapidly evolves into something easily understandable by some of us who never quite developed computer skills beyond email and Facebook. It was evocative in a time when everyone is chiming in on the relative importance of AI, and leads the reader down a road that bounces between academia and dogmatic religion.It is well paced and a relatively quick read. The characters could use a bit more substance, but they fill the need for ancillary "staff" as it were, to move the plot line along.MIND is a change of pace in my reading taste and after having finished it I might have to spend a little more time in the Sci Fi sections of Amazon and read a few more books, fiction and non fiction as well, so I consider the book to get better than an average grade for a first time novelist. This is a great starting point for my further explorations.

MIND- light suspense novel on a timely subject, artificial intelligence By Phoenix77 Moderately light reading, but the plot, like a bouncing ball eventually rolls into a suspenseful, and challenging storyline. The author correctly explains and compares how machine programming and human learning are a step by step iterative process. Just as a child learns and grows, "Alice" our main machine character, the "daughter" of Joshua, our human, learns and expands her knowledge base, thanks in no small part to access to global information through the internet. When Alice eventually morphs into independent thinking and decision making, and becomes "self aware"- the theoretical threshold of becoming an artificially intelligent entity, she has arrived. AT this time Alice also joins the family of threatening scientific breakthroughs that are often, in the beginning, perceived as threats to society. And once again, religion steps up to the task to challenge this societal threat. For those who have not pondered the potential benefits and fears AI represents, a controversy that will be with us for the imminent future, this would be interesting, and surprisingly light reading.
