In the year 2030, there will be over 74 million baby boomers over the age of 65 living in the United States. This number does not include immigrants. The impact this data may have on housing and nursing care for the elderly helped to inspire the creation of ‘The Wrinkle Ranch’ a fast paced thought provoking story about a group of baby boomers who once lived together in a commune in 1960’s California. After decades of separation, the group reconnects in Arizona making a commitment to care for each other to the end…no matter what. It is a heartfelt story about a spirited group of friends now in advancing years forced to ask themselves: Where will I be at the end of my journey? Where will I go when there’s no room at the inn? Sharon is a feisty retired emergency room nurse and her son wants to move her into assisted living. She rejects his proposal and within a nation now blindsided by a housing shortage for the elderly, pursues an alternative. While at times humorous, detailed yarns are woven throughout to create layers of mini dramas: a love child, tales of a marriage gone stale, tragic loss, estrangements and love unrealized. It takes the spirit of the Yukon to help a Vietnam veteran tell his story helping him to reconcile with his past. Thought provoking scenes shed light on the effects of government intrusion, shocking exploitation and a debate on euthanasia. Amidst the chaos of barking Chihuahuas and health events managed with medical marijuana, there are joyful reunifications, a finding of true love and the inevitability of saying good-bye.

By Peggy Miller This new author's debut book is a heartfelt story about a group of young people that reconnect when they are approaching their senior years. With the nursing home shortage due to the large number of baby boomers seeking care and their desire to avoid living out their days at a 'wrinkle ranch', this group comes up with a unique plan to journey together. The book is entertaining and thought provoking and will leave you thinking about yourself, your friends and whether or not there is a quonset hut in your future......"let's get the discussion going"...

It is a beautiful story of brotherly love and charity By Mary Ellen Stackel I bought this book at the recommendation of a friend, not knowing what to expect. A group of friends who shared a free spirit lifestyle in their youth now find themselves sometimes alone and at a fragile time of life. They reconnect and decide to start the Wrinkle Ranch, a commune lifestyle at the other end of their lives. It is a beautiful story of brotherly love and charity. What I see and what they really lose sight of if why they are doing this. They think it is just self preservation but in reality they are performing the corporal works of mercy - the inborn desire to love others and care for them and be loved and cared for in return. They pledge to care for each other until the end, sometimes fearful of what the end is but somehow they make their lives as happy as they can be and accept the unavoidable aging and sickness that accompanies the journey. We see ourselves in all of the characters; bits and pieces of each of them are us. I think the book makes us think of what the end years should be like and if we all accepted the fact that we need each other, whether as a commune (which I would not like) or as a family, could life be better. As a Catholic, I would call what they experienced the grace given by God to see others as gifts and to cherish each life - giving and receiving love. I believe there is a spiritual undertone to this novel which is beautiful. There are many things to be gained from reading the Wrinkle Ranch. Well done.
