Mary Magwood Causey grew up on the isolated shores of Little Bulls Island, South Carolina. The family lived in a home built from timbers harvested from shipwrecks. There was no electricity and no phone—none of the conveniences deemed essential to modern life.
The youngest of almost a dozen siblings, Causey was alone more often than not, her brothers and sisters having mostly moved, married, or joined the army. About the Author
A resident of Awendaw, South Carolina, Mary Magwood Causey has lived in the region her entire life. She graduated from Moultrie High School and the College of Charleston, and she has had poetry published in The Miscellany.
Married to Robert A. Causey, she is the mother of three children, Robert A. Causey Jr., Deborah Causey Yates, and Richard Anthony Causey (deceased). She has nine grandchildren and is a member of LifePark Church of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.

By Robert Causey While this book is written by my wife, I have to give it a great review because I am not one who loves to read but found this an easy,enjoyable read. If you want to know more about life on a low country barrier island, this is an excellent choice. The recipes are an added bonus.

What a delight to learn about Plat Eyes and Roley Poley adventures on an island accessible only by boat, or in a crisis, swimming with one oar in the water to keep you floating! I'm not much of a poet or a cook, but poems called "Fried Worms" in the same book with recipes called "Seafood Delight" brought grins and chuckles followed by an intense desire for shrimp, clams, and pasta.If you're in a rush, just pass by this book and pick up a Clancy or Baldacci novel. However, if you're feeling like you need to take a deep breath, slow your life down, and calm the noise to something below a roar, then this is the book for you. Little Bulls Island will soon be your favorite home away from home.Mary Causey leads with her faith, and lives joyfully "to the full." Join her in "The Sleepy Inlet." There are not many books that can show you how separated today's culture is from the culture before us. Causey inspires us with a simpler time while encapsulating us in a time like we were on of her 13 brothers and sisters. Not only can she engage you in her experience, she allows you to partake by making on of her recipes that her stories talk about, visiting actual places in Charleston, SC and hearing poetry. Magnificent book.
