Shawn Kobb seems to be hitting his stride with this one. While Kobb's previous book, "City of Ghosts" was a good debut novel, "Collection" shines. It's like watching a new author really find his voice and come in to his own.If you're a fan of mysteries, crime novels, thrillers, or scifi, then this book should be right up your alley.

Detective stories and mysteries are my favorite genres , and this book captures both . Maybe a touch of sci-fi thrown in there also . I see from Mr. Kobb`s website that another book is due out soon to compliment the first book that features Austria as it`s setting. I`ll be sure to grab that one too when it gets listed here on the Amazon website.

I just love he characters and how they have developed in the series. I look forward to each new book in the series. The part of Germany that the stories occur in are parts that i spent very little time in , so I am learning about the geography as well as the dialect spoken there. This book is thoroughly enjoyable. it can be read without reading previous books in the series but i think you appreciate it more if you have.

This well documented collection of personal stories of adventure and tragedy begins with my earliest California ancestors who were some of the first of the 49er families to settle in Sonora during California’s Gold Rush. The McQuades left Australia on a long, perilous sea journey with two small children. Bill Price of Kentucky, 18 when he joined a wagon train, barely survived the harrowing trip over the Sierras taking some of the first cattle to Sonora. He would marry Polly McQuade and their stories and those of their eight children, show what drama can occur in ordinary families; an out of wedlock family of the county sheriff, a miner who came home from Nome with enough gold to purchase the largest cattle ranch in the county, and a murder across from City Hall. There was tragedy, also, including three family suicides. The first and most devastating for the family was Polly’s drowning when Genie, her youngest child, was five. Genie was my troubled grandmother and I set out to find her backstory. I was immediately led to the Gold Rush that brought her parents together. I saw how the time and place affected them and the effect they had on town and county. This was never intended to be a book but the stories piled upon stories. Genie’s is the last chapter.

My California Gold Rush Pioneers: The McQuade and Price Families of Sonora, Tuolumne County, California, by Sue Rydberg Canavan

About the Author Sue Canavan is a “woman of a certain age”, a 5th generation Californian. She and six siblings grew up in San Francisco, a city that she still thinks of as home even though she has lived elsewhere for over fifty years. She and Bill Canavan, a pilot from Boston, have been married 52 years, a feat accomplished with love, endurance and great humor. Bill has shown an amazing tolerance for her years of near-obsessive family research and the resulting genealogical clutter. Bill and Sue returned to California from New York’s Long Island twenty-two years ago and live in the wine country town of Santa Rosa. They have two grown children and twin grandsons who also live in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is grateful for the hospitality of her  brother-in-law Bob Canavan and his wife Jan who let her set up “research residency” with them in Sonora for days on end. Sue loves stories in books, on TV, in movies, on a theater stage, at the ballet or told in person over coffee. She has enjoyed the detective work and puzzling over bits of data and piecing them together until each individual emerged, ready to be part of this book. That is the way she became acquainted with each member of the McQuade and Price families. She hopes you enjoy meeting them too.

The story of Iranian women, including their century-old battle for rights, remains with the few exceptions, untold. Though they have been in the forefront of the national struggle for independence, liberty and democracy in Iran, and have been among the most educated and most independent women in the Middle East-they entered universities in 1936 and gained the right to vote in 1963-to those in the West, their lives stay, for most part, in purdah, hidden and veiled in mystery. Ironically, their tale is one of courage, resistance, sacrifice, and survival in an intensely traditional and patriarchal society, for unlike some of their sisters, in countries near and far, they have actively participated in the public sphere to protest, ask for rights, and demand equality. A myth-buster, the play helps us see them for who they are: fearless shir-zan, fighting oppression and tyranny-a battle that can be ours, as well.

Forget everything you think you know about the women of Iran- this collection of stories gives life and voices to the real struggles women, and in particular, Iranian women have faced across time and today with strength, grace, intelligence and a fire that never dies. I saw the production in Portland, Maine and it was an inspiring gift. This play will keep you thinking long after you put it down.

Mary Magwood Causey grew up on the isolated shores of Little Bulls Island, South Carolina. The family lived in a home built from timbers harvested from shipwrecks. There was no electricity and no phone—none of the conveniences deemed essential to modern life.

The youngest of almost a dozen siblings, Causey was alone more often than not, her brothers and sisters having mostly moved, married, or joined the army. She learned to entertain herself, writing poetry and playing creative but often lonely games, surrounded by the peace and beauty of the small island. At age eight she experienced a near-tragedy that transformed into a miraculous event, changing her life forever.

This is the story of Causey, her siblings, and her parents—her hardworking Mamma and her old-fashioned, unchangeable Poppa who lived on and loved Little Bulls Island his entire life. And it’s the story of a rebellious teenager, whose desire for a “normal” life leads to her hurting the father she loves dearly.

Part inspirational memoir, part poetry collection, and part recipe book, The Sleepy Inlet captures Causey’s memories of a simple life and an island whose beauty and peace she would only fully appreciate after she left.

By Robert Causey While this book is written by my wife, I have to give it a great review because I am not one who loves to read but found this an easy, enjoyable read. If you want to know more about life on a low country barrier island, this is an excellent choice. The recipes are an added bonus.

What a delight to learn about Plat Eyes and Roley Poley adventures on an island accessible only by boat, or in a crisis, swimming with one oar in the water to keep you floating! I'm not much of a poet or a cook, but poems called "Fried Worms" in the same book with recipes called "Seafood Delight" brought grins and chuckles followed by an intense desire for shrimp, clams, and pasta. If you're in a rush, just pass by this book and pick up a Clancy or Baldacci novel. However, if you're feeling like you need to take a deep breath, slow your life down, and calm the noise to something below a roar, then this is the book for you. Little Bulls Island will soon be your favorite home away from home.Mary Causey leads with her faith, and lives joyfully "to the full." Join her in "The Sleepy Inlet." It's a journey worth experiencing.Ray Snyder

There are not many books that can show you how separated today's culture is from the culture before us. Causey inspires us with a simpler time while encapsulating us in a time like we were on of her 13 brothers and sisters. Not only can she engage you in her experience, she allows you to partake by making on of her recipes that her stories talk about, visiting actual places in Charleston, SC and hearing poetry. Magnificent book.

By jlswainsboro/Judy Lewis Title: FERAL:Devils Point WolvesSeries: Mating Season CollectionDesignation: Book Four, Standalone Short NovellaAuthor: Eliza GayleReading Platform" Kindle UnlimitedMy Rating: FIVE DELIGHTFULLY ENTERTAINING STARS *****Yum! Feral: Devils Point Wolves by Eliza Gayle is the fourth tantalizing tidbit in Gayle's riveting new Mating Season Collection and it totally rocks! I love it! Each release is a standalone novella featuring a separate couple and comes complete with its own happy ever after ending. The dialog is exceptionally well written in the third person with alternating his and her points of view. The characters are irresistibly sexy and will capture your heart. And the story is romantic, sexy, wild, wicked and definitely feral!Club Diablo is a strip club owned by handsome brothers, Dante, Damien and Diego. It's located near the entrance to Devils Point, an island located in the Pacific Northwest which these "men" call home. I use the term men loosely because Dante, Damien and Diego are not completely human. Huh? Nope, they're werewolves and spring is their mating season when the mating moon calls them to find their mate! Brothers Dante, Damien and Diego have all answered the moon's call and have now taken mates, twin sisters Faith and Rebel Harris, and former Hunter and now a werewolf herself, Allison Fox. Allison, her brother Brody and her entire family are Hunters who only want to kill all supernatural creatures. Allison and Brody Fox have only known one way of life and one way of thinking and that is the way of the hunters - her only family. Her brother Brody Fox was bitten and has now become a werewolf and even worse, he just may be feral. She loves her brother and came to the island to save him. She must find him before her family or the other wolves can kill him. She was captured by Diego who turned out to be her true mate. She and her new mate along with help from the pack have finally captured Brody and are trying to help him adjust to being a werewolf but Brody has been haunted by the scent of a young woman he saw on the beach this past spring during the mating season. It was the only time his wolf has felt anywhere near under control. By the time he convinced himself to talk to her, she had disappeared - completely. He searched the island to no avail. He's only been a wolf for six months and doesn't understand why he's still so possessed to find this young woman. He never met her and doesn't even know her name. And it's no longer mating season so what's going on? He's given up all hope until he catches her scent again. What's a new wolf to do? Why talk his sister and the pack into letting him out of the bunker where he's being held so he can find her and claim her, of course! Who cares whether it's mating season or not - certainly not his wolf!Wildlife biologist Prue Davis has not only lost her job but she may very well have also lost her future. When the professor she was working with in Montana lost his job, Prue also lost hers along with all her research notes on the Devil's Club plant and its effect on wolves. Her only option at this point is to return to Devil's Point, an isolated island off the northwest coast and try to find the plant. Unfortunately, this trip she runs into a lot more resistance to continuing her research by the owners of the island and is assigned an escort who turns out to be none other than Brody Fox. And you guessed it - she's the woman who has been haunting his dreams since that fateful night. And when they meet - Oh my! Sparks fly! Attraction builds! Passion ignites! But danger lurks in the shadows and the Hunters have been trying to find Brody. He may be their family but he's now also a werewolf and as far as they're concerned - the only good werewolf is a dead one. Oh my goodness! Will Brody recognize his feelings for Prue and be able to convince her to stay with him? Will Prue still want Brody once she discovers he's a werewolf? Or will the Hunters kill them both??? We'll see! Buckle up my lovelies! It's another wild ride! Deliciously cute, seriously sexy and delightfully entertaining!!! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!Complimentary copy received in exchange for a review.

It is very well-written, and has an exceptionally engaging storyline. After being accidentally bitten, the scent of his mate has lured Brody to Devils Point Island - they had connected briefly during the mating season. Her scent had calmed the chaos raging inside him, but now, with her gone, he was a monster that refused to settle down. Prue has lost her job as a Wildlife Biologist, but returns to Devils Point Island to continue her research; she is looking for a special plant, but is not allowed to explore the Island without an escort – Brody. There is an instant chemistry and attraction between the two; he makes her feel safe and with Prue by his side his entire attitude and demeanour changes; they complement each other. But Prue will not give up on her research and goes out alone; little does she know that her reports about the unusual number of wolf sightings has led hunters to the Island – not only hunters, but Brody’s family and they are out for blood – ready to kill what they fear. When a confrontation takes place, Prue learns Brody’s true nature, but there are devastating effects. It is the wolf that has claimed Prue, but what happens next has to be her choice – as confused as she is, Prue doesn’t want to lose Brody. The Alphas don’t trust outsiders; there were too many right now and one way or another trouble would be headed their way. Every book about Devils Point Island is intriguing and this one is no exception and certainly one I would recommend. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

By Kristy Heinicke I was given an ARC of Feral from the author, in exchange for an honest review.I couldn't even wait a day before I grabbed my kindle & started reading this, I think, scratch that KNOW I'm HOOKED on Eliza's "Devils Point Wolves" series. Once I started I was quickly sucked again into the lives of the pack, then BAAAAMMMM it was over. Why did it have to finish so quickly??Prue is jobless, but has an idea for a new job, she just needs to collect new evidence to back up her theory & the only place she knows where to get it is Devils Point.... Brody & his wolf have been searching for the sent of the girl from months ago, the only problem is he's known as having gone feral. Then one day the scent makes it through the cell he's kept in....Oh my goodness, this story just completed the last three, well joined them all, in the most amazing way. I so didn't see that coming at all. Another action packed read, I hope this isn't the end for this series.Feral is book 4 in Eliza's "Devils Point Wolves" series, which in turn is a part of the "Mating Season" pack series. A set of books from 6 authors, 6 different packs & an individuals story on finding their mate. I can't wait to read the last novella from Eliza's "Devils Point Wolves" & to delve into the other authors work in the "Mating Season" series.

Out of Silence: Repair across Generations is the story of one man's journey through three generations and five continents to find—and heal—a past he didn’t know existed.

Award-Winning "Finalist" - International Book Awards 2015 Autobiography/Memoirs" http://www.internationalbookawards.com/2015awardannouncement.html

In 1997, Martin Beck Matuštík made a dramatic discovery at the age of forty: he was the child of a Holocaust survivor. His mother's shocking seocret came from the most unlikely of places—shoeboxes full of her literary and personal archives. These dramatic revelations changed his life forever and set him on a path to discover his true identity. His research unveiled his mother's remarkable life—and the truth behind her painful decision to reject her Jewish heritage and keep it hidden from her family.

Akin to Madeleine Albright's Prague Winter: A Personal Story of Remembrance and War, 1937–1948, Matuštík's Out of Silence is an intensely personal Czech-Slovak-American Jewish journey into the past to understand the present and find hope for the future. Dealing with self-transformation, loss, memory, recovery, and the unsettling reality of living with multiple identities, Matuštík's exhaustive research and selfless prose offer other children of survivors—and the world at large—a remarkable look inside one man's endeavor to repair the shattered map of his identity.

Early praise for OUT OF SILENCE

From Shoa to Communist Czechoslovakia to post-Communist Eastern Europe to the very human and often overlooked dimensions of how individuals and communities part and reconcile, Out of Silence: Repair across Generations is a powerfully naked, movingly poignant, and courageously liberating portrait. --Lewis R. Gordon, Professor of Philosophy, Africana Studies, and Judaic Studies, UCONN-Storrs; Nelson Mandela Visiting Professor, Rhodes University, South Africa; and EuroPhilosophy Chair, Université Toulouse Jean Jaurès, France

Who will stop the resentments of the era of the two twentieth-century beastly regimes? The stories of our fathers and grandfathers? Matuštík's multigenerational drama leaves visible traces. We should not store them in institutional file cabinets. --Fedor Gál, author, journalist, and film documentarist, and a cofounder and chair of the Public against Violence, the movement that in 1989 brought down Communism in Slovakia, was born at the end of World War II in the Czech concentration camp Terezin

Matuštík’s book is a testimony to all of us who live in the wake of disaster, who struggle with its posthumous or Lazarean dimensions, which is to say, to all of us. --Sandor Goodhart, Professor of English and Jewish Studies, Purdue University

After more than twenty-five years bringing works related to the history of the Holocaust and to Jewish culture to the light of print, I can honestly assert we have not read a book which so edifies the theological issues bound up in the history of a family rent apart by war and politics, anti-Semitism and the subsequent clashes of Communist and capitalist cultures. The author's expertise in philosophical and religious studies and his truly advanced perspective in the philosophical and public aspects of his family's journey provide an unusual opportunity for readers follow a memoiristic literary nonfiction narrative while engaging the theoretical and historical issues as well. --Alan Adelson, Executive Director of Jewish Heritage Project, the International Initiative in the Literature of the Holocaust, New York

The first that he is Jewish altered his life irrevocably. The second concerning the reasons for which his Mother concealed their Jewish origins complicated that origin and that discovery irreparably. Recounting his personal history from the disclosure of the first in the summer of 1997 to his unveiling of the second in the spring of 2012, his book remains a testimony to all of us who live in the wake of disaster, which is to say, who struggle with its posthumous or Lazarean dimensions, which is to say, to all of us. --Sandor Goodhart, PhD, Professor of English and Jewish Studies, Purdue UniversityWho will stop the resentments of the era of the two twentieth-century beastly regimes? Lord Karel Schwarzenberg, a Czech politician and wise man, recently placed in doubt my fragile optimism, saying, One can inherit and pass prejudices to another generation, but not life experience." Yes, but the life stories, such as Dr. Matustík's multigenerational drama, Out of Silence, leave visible traces. We should not store them in institutional file cabinets. This poignant memoir, through bringing together the visual and the audible, the olfactory and the gastronomic, the past and the present, reaches forth for the ethical meaning of life as uncovering the spiritual depths of ethical responsibility. As a major critical theorist of philosophy and religion, Matustík raises the question of becoming a Jew, and this question, as told through the complicated relationship to his mother and, through her, to his extended family and the wider Jewish people, becomes a question of communal self-critique. From Shoa to Communist Czechoslovakia to post-Communist Eastern Europe to the very human and often overlooked dimensions of how individuals and communities part and reconcile, Out of Silence is a powerfully naked, movingly poignant, and courageously liberating portrait. --Lewis R. Donovan Out of Silence: Repair Across Generations exposes two closely-held family secrets to the public eye: secrets that affected the author's identity and perception of himself and which ultimately led to revelations that would re-unite pathways destroyed by regimes and decisions. It took a shoebox full of diaries and writings to bring this truth to light. This discovery shook the author's long-held beliefs about who he was, his family's past, and its place in the present. And his decision to write Out of Silence serves as testimony not just to his family's struggles and survival mechanisms, but to the process by which secrets revealed come to repair long-broken lives. The course of charting this process could have been so much different, under a different pen. Here it assumes an immediacy that is rare even in a memoir, with Matuštík focused on capturing the sights, smells, ethical questions, and complicated facets of Jewish relationships to the world. In the course of the author's journey, underlying prejudices, perceptions, and broader concerns of the modern world are revealed as Jew and non-Jew alike consider the lasting impact of history's influence. So many accounts have been written about Holocaust survival that one might wonder at the need for yet another, and at its approach. In truth, Out of Silence explores more than one man's family, one family's secrets, and the journey it provokes. It provides a gripping account of the process of discovery and reconciliation not just between generations, but between peoples; and it succeeds in documenting the lasting effects of decisions, choices, and survival mechanisms from past to present worlds. It's a journey that embraces three generations, five continents, and a cast of supporting characters over the decades. The time span is winding and embraces the period from before the Holocaust to WW 2, the author's birth in the Communist era, and his journey from Czechoslovakia to the US and back, after the fall of the Iron Curtain; and it even includes the author's discovery of lost family connections in Australia. His is a narrative that brings the personal and the political in line with history and experience, and it's an approach that holds vivid immediacy and meaning for any student of the Holocaust and its presence in today's world. To aid in this study, it should be noted that photography and online resources for teaching are offered at www.newcriticaltheory.com. The book is well illustrated and at 348 pages, it's a solid read.It stands at the crossroads of theology, social and political analysis, and literature, and handily complements existing works, adding more research than most to elevate it well beyond the 'simple memoir' genre; making it a top pick for any collection strong in history and the psychology of family relationships as a whole.

Arthur Zeman was a third generation Iowan whose grandfather emigrated from Czechoslavakia in 1865. He was a hard working farmer who was constantly looking for ways to improve farm efficiency. Taking care of the soil and the environment was always a primary concern. He was a man ahead of his time technologically. This book is a saga not only of a man and his family, but also of a people who transformed America’s heartland into one of the greatest “bread baskets” in the nation. This is a story about family, neighbors, and community in central Iowa who not only survived frigid blizzards in the winter but also the drying winds and droughts or soaking floods of summer. Still, they trusted God to pull them through and He built their faith, which they demonstrated to their children. Arthur Zeman was a man of faith and of action- a servant to his community, church, neighbors, and a husband and father and the kind of man that America needs today. For those who have roots in the American heartland, this book is for you. If your roots are in the heartland of America, you will find this book a must read

He worked as hard as anyone I've known and yet he always had time for a runny-nosed little nephew. Good family history and a nice description of the common issues his generation had to endure, to persevere, and ultimately prevail.Thank you Howard.

This book recaptures all the adventures and experiences of a twenty year old Air Force C-130 Loadmaster as he deals with his first taste of combat and the complications of love in a time of war. This true story begins in February 1967 and continues thru August 1969. The C-130 remains as an air force workhorse for close combat support and the duties performed by today's loadmasters remain the same - from the loading process, to the aerial delivery of cargo. The difference is the location now more likely to be in the Middle East, Iraq and Afghanistan whereas this story is set in the jungles of Vietnam. If you ever wanted to get a taste of the '60,s or of the flyboy lifestyle this book will transport you into a position few in life experience - world travel, combat, Special Ops missions and true love in a climate of war. The chronicle begins when I am sent to the Philippines to fly two week missions into Vietnam each month. The book details these varied combat missions and their impact on a young recruit. This is not truly a love story but included is the account of the interaction between my high school sweetheart and myself during my tour of duty. All her letters are included providing the chance to see the overwhelming contrast of our realities. The letters and the commentary provided are there to provide the contrast in perspectives of how the war affected us and also how greatly my views on life were forever altered. All is there for the reader to consider.

It was an honest account of what happens when you take a young kid, throw him into a war, only to see the most horrific side of mankind, and learning how to cope and survive. Mixed in with the story is a relationship with the girl he left behind, and the wrestling with his conscience, morality, and values he faced. Good story, easy read, and I would recommend it.
