The Unfolding of Fleet Actions was Thrilling By Dave Hatharian Sure, there are some grammar mistakes, but we are capable of overcoming those while reading without losing the story; therefore I won't waste time dwelling on something that has already been reviewed by others in their posts. The book is fast paced, with fleet movements and infantry engagements being the central scenario around which plot elements are built. The book does an exceptional job of focusing on humanity's efforts of overcoming the significant, and near total advantages of an alien enemy, while attempting to find any opportunity to exploit, and more favorable terms in which to engage the enemy.It's a very interesting read as you are essentially witnessing the thoughts of the various commanders unfold in their minds in situations in which they find themselves and response to changing enemy actions. As a reader, "viewing" the situation through narration of thought processes and how they attempt to cleverly responded to dire situations in an effort to stave off complete defeat, or overcome significant odds was thrilling. Being able to do the same with the enemy's decisions, and follow their though processes to conclusion was very gratifying. This let me understand the actions of both fleets/commanders/strategists and the responses of opposing forces from each other's perspectives, giving me not only the big picture of the fleet engagements and star systems spanning strategy, but also the immediate, visceral reactions of the human commanders and their opposing alien enemy commanders.I would have preferred more chapters/story lines in which the humans continued to attempt to advance their own causes, and focus on attempting to find weakness to exploit, or exploring new tactical situations which may provide advantages for the underdog that is the Human Federation. However, that would be much like asking for another book altogether, as this already exists within the current novel, albeit within fewer total fleet engagements than I would have expected.I am looking forward to the next book in the series, but am concerned that future books in the series will not hold the same spirit of desperate struggle against overwhelming odds as humanity works to attempt to cleverly outmaneuver a more capable adversary. Too often sequels end up being watered down versions of the former, but as this is a review of the current book, I will withhold any further crystal ball comments.Ultimately, if you enjoy the fight of an underdog in a space opera setting, this book is for you. If you cannot overcome some fairly consistent grammar mistakes (usually simple double words, or misplaced articles indicative of a writer writing at a brisk pace without a sufficient copy editor) you may find yourself frustrated. There is also probably more history given for the Aliens, than for humanity which can be frustrating in itself for some people as you cannot become emotionally attached to their future nation, but the author does a good job of painting the "human story" through character development enough to overlook this.
