An inspiring tail of defying the odds By Sarah Kelly The title draws the reader into the adventurous life of a woman who has made her mark in the stereotypically male-dominated sport of biking but they soon learn that Bessie faced more than just the sexism of today. Born in 1911 to an interracial couple, she battled the discrimination of the past century to both her race and sex and still came out victorious. This short story takes you through the adventures of her life including rides through the deep south, time spent in the military during WWII, making a living doing tricks on her bike, and how it was all possible due to her profound faith. Bessie Stringfield is a hero and inspiration for women everywhere and for anyone who has ever been told "You can't do it" because quite clearly, she did.
