Review  "I pulled an all nighter finishing this book because I could not put it down. There are so many feels I'm experiencing after reading this book, that is truly a tale of pain, loss, and fighting for something that you've given your all to."  NWA Gossip Girl. "This book grabs your attention and it keeps you turning the page wanting and Needing More. The story is very well written and I am confident that things will truly come together in this next book." Christy- Radical Reads Book Blog"I really liked this book! I began reading it expecting a typical angst filled romance of a woman torn between two men. I was SO pleasantly surprised to quickly read otherwise. This book has a complex plot with characters that have true depth. Nothing feels contrived or forced." - Coast to Coast Book Besties"I really enjoyed this book, so much that I have been telling friends they need to read it as soon as I closed the last page. This isn't your typical love triangle book as the cover and blurb would suggest, it is complex, emotional and a story of lives entwined in a much deeper way than you can imagine. Much deeper than the characters seem to know and their lives all seem to come back to their feelings towards a dead woman." - Fictional Men's Page for Book Ho's

About the Author Antoinette Candela is most likely listening to music at a very high volume right now and pondering her next book. She grew up in Upstate New York and is an avid New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys fan. As a child, she enjoyed reading and writing and penned her first story at the age of thirteen. She drives fast, is a neat freak, loves red wine, Scrabble and can't live without her iced coffee and a good pen. Currently she lives in Massachusetts with her son and daughter in her neat and tidy home. When she's not planted in front of her computer writing, she can be found at the gym or at the beach soaking up the rays and enjoying a good book.

By NWA Gossip Girl An emotional story of love, deceit, loss, and painful truths, I give Love is Louder 4.5 stars.Where to begin with this review! I pulled an all nighter finishing this book because I could not put it down. There are so many feels I'm experiencing after reading this book, that is truly a tale of pain, loss, and fighting for something that you've given your all to. You have James, successful lawyer and used to be loving husband to Brie. He works late hours, doesn't always come home, he knows his wife is hurting but he's so focused on trying to prove himself, that he puts her on the back burner. I wanted to make him the bad guy, shake and point my finger at him, but as I read, I couldn't. He wants to do the right thing, he admits his short comings but is still holding on to a shocking secret he knows will not just destroy him, but his family. Brie, loving neglected wife. She loves her husband, but the longing she feels for him is making her go crazy. She's lonely, and that is a dangerous thing. She begins to realize a painful truth about her husband, that maybe they don't want to same things anymore, but how can she let him go? Mason is suffering from the loss of his sister, her death still a mystery that haunts him everyday. During a routine service job, he meets Brie and the events that follow set you up for 3 characters that are struggling with the same pain and are connected in a way that makes you think, no one will survive this. From the synopsis I was thinking I was going to read about a love triangle, but I was wrong. What I got is a story of a couple trying to put the pieces of their marriage back together, and what happens when someone is thrown into the mix that makes you realize what you're missing. This story does start off a little slow, I think that had more to do with me being an impatient reader as I was trying to see if Brie and Mason would hook up! But as I kept reading prices just started to come to together, everyone's actions made since, the flashbacks the characters had were all starting to tie together to one secret that will shatter them all! This book had such an emotional pull on me. I was not just connected to one character, but all of them. I wanted a happy ending for all of them, but realized that was not the fate of this book. While cliffhanger annoy me most of the time, I can appreciate why it was done for this book. There is so much more to tell. You just see the tip of the iceberg at the end, and have not scratched the surface of what is to come. I can't wait to see what's next.

I NEED MORE By Christy McCurry (Radical Reads Book Blog) I was graciously given a ARC copy of Love Is Louder for an honest review..Love is Louder is a complex, complicated, love story and it moves at a very fast pass. I really enjoyed this story, but it leaves you confused and with so many questions..At first it was real hard to connect with character because you are thrown into the present, when when all their issues stem from their past. There are a few flash backs, but they are all left a mystery..I do have mixed emotions when it comes to Brie, she has some deep seeded issues.. There was times when I wasn't sure if I could stand anymore of her weaknesses, but I also have to say the story would not have been the same if her character was a stronger more assertive woman..James (Brie's Husband) there lies more mystery for me. He is a puzzle and all the pieces are not fitting yet.. Does he truly love Brie ?The Mother in Law lord she is something else. I loved Jame's father, and he is the only reason I think their is more to James's mother than we are understanding so far.. yes more mystery.Mason awe I loved Mason, we don't learn to much about him, but he does play a major part in the story..There are many more secondary characters that play a big roll in this large storm that is brewing..This story has lots of mystery and leaves you with tons of questions and no answers and a big Cliffhanger. After reading my review your probably thinking this is not the book for you. That is Not the case this book grabs your attention and it keeps you turning the page wanting and Needing More. The story is very well written and I am confident that things will truly come together in this next book.I would recomend this book.. I can not wait to read more I hope it happens quickly...

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Love is Louder By FMR Book Grind TRACY'S REVIEW:Rating: 3.5 StarsBrie thought she had it all. Married to the love of her life James. A company she owns doing what she loved. On the outside it seemed like she had the perfect life, but behind closed doors it was anything but.Mason was your typical attractive single male. Working, living life with women, avoiding serious relationships and love. There was only one person he loved and that was his 4 year old niece. What happens when these two meet and feelings start to develop? Can they stay friends and be nothing more? What happens when they realize their lives are crossing more than they never thought was possible? Will things get to be too much for Brie to handle? So I only gave this 3.5 stars because at about 10% into the book I was able to predict what was going to happen throughout the rest of it. I'm not quite sure if I'm 100% correct since this ended up being a cliffhanger story. I'll read the next one just so I can see what happened. So because the fact the author is getting me to want to read the next one, I gave it a good rating.

By Angela I liked the suspense and action that was there at times to really keeps the reader who liked this filthy language from one or two of his main characters. And it seemed to have taken a along, long time to get there. WOW! I found it to be just too full of bad language and taking God's name in vain,etC. I really do not care to read this author's ebook again, sorry Joseph but you turned me away from ever reading books like yours. Because you did have a way to keep the reader reading it till the end with some some suspense but yet used way too much profanity later in your ebook this is why I am giving this ebook only four stars.I definitely would only recommend this ebook for adults who do not mind reading this type of reading. I received this ebook for free and in exchange I have written as honest a review as I can. Very interesting point of view from drug smugglers! By Angela

New York, huit heures du matin.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A Flic in New York By Roger Brunyate According to the book jacket, Guillaume Musso is the most-read author in France. It is not literature we are dealing with here but a detective suspense story that kept me glued to the page for the better part of two days. And right up to the minute too! One of the greatest joys of reading was to discover what has become of the French language; the writing is full of slang, abbreviations, English words converted to new uses, and sheer exuberance of invention. This is no longer the language of Voltaire, or even of Simenon.I should not say much about the plot. Alice Schäfer, 38, a Paris detective captain, wakes up in Central Park with blood on her clothes and a strange gun in her pocket. Stranger still, she is handcuffed to a man who calls himself Gabriel Keyne, a jazz musician. Neither of them knows how they got there. The night before, Alice had been out drinking with three girlfriends on the Champs-Élysées; Gabriel was playing in a Dublin bar. But they are resourceful, and find a way to get the cuffs removed and begin to investigate their own mystery. During the course of their adventure, Alice has an increasing number of flashbacks, offering glimpses both into her professional life and private tragedy. It begins to look as though everything is connected to a serial killer she tracked down three years before....Increasingly, the book reminded me of NIGHT FILM by Marissa Pessl. Both writers exploit the New York setting beautifully; this one starts on the Upper West Side and takes us in rapid succession to Red Hook, Chinatown, Greenwich Village, Astoria, and then to the White Mountains. Both set off on a treasure-hunt so breathless that we have no time to question the plausibility of the clues or the many twists in the plot. And both, I have to say, end the chase with gear-changes so abrupt that it is touch and go whether you applaud their brilliant invention or dismiss them as blatant cheating.I rather suspect that, were I to read this in English (surely a translation will appear shortly), I would be turned off by the popular style -- for example replacing the word "said" at every opportunity by an action verb: commanded, hammered, challenged, mocked, disbelieved, and numerous others with no English equivalent. But it is such fun in French! I love seeing words for guy, car, cigarette, gun, no doubt in common street use, but too new to appear in dictionaries. I'm fascinated by the tendency to abbreviate everything down to its first syllables: fac, clima, psy, ordi, fluo. And I love the wholesale appropriation of American words, as when someone is described wearing "un jean et des baskets usés," or, to repeat what I said earlier about being glued to the page, to see "ses yeux restaient scotchés à la page." In short, a five-star learning experience for me with what is probably a four-star book.

The book describes his favorite city and particularly the parc and then the North East. The plot is exciting for a while than loses interest with all complication. Admitedly no way to figure out what's going on till the end.

This is a book of adventure and travel. It is also a memoir, reflecting the author's love for the people and the land, but do not expect a sentimental reflection of years gone by. These stories connect us all as human beings. Bloch expresses his deep wonder as a child, frustration with his studies at the seminary, and his deep longing for freedom. Freedom he receives during his rollicking free life as a hobo, and he flies through graphic descriptions of piloting jet airplanes. Finally Bloch reaches an honest insight into what it's like to be a special agent/pilot for the Drug Enforcement Administration. Here is the first part of his story.

A Brilliant Written Memoir of Intrigue and Grace By M Connolly Bloch's book is a must read for those who do not wish to be told what they should think ,feel and know. Read this book. It will truly give you insight of the world we live in. It has been a long time since I have been so intrigued reading a Memoir. The true test of a " Great Book" is one that stays with me. One I can't stop thinking about long after I have finished the book. This book is one of those great books.Bloch's amazing way of writing is open and honest with no glossing over to bring you along each step of his journey through life as a child growing up on a farm in Minnesota with 17 brothers and sisters. The authors has a remarkable way of taking you through the plight of harsh winters, hot summers, and back breaking work of farm life. Some can relate it to their life and ones that never experienced it will learn that life has many facets. Upon completing 8th grade Bloch entered the Catholic Seminary. That is a book in its self. Bloch's journey as a hobo will take you to a world you've never been. The good, bad and the ugly. His life from a hobo to an Officer, flying jet's, to an instructor pilot, training other Officers to fly jet's in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam war is truly a remarkable story.Bloch's style of writing draws you in and it becomes alive. You are there! In my opinion Bloch is an amazing Author that is as powerful as John Steinbeck. I would and have recommended this book.Thank you Mr. Bloch for an unforgettable and enlightening journey. I am looking forward to reading your continued journey when it is available.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. This book is worth the price for the introduction alone! By Donna Enmon "A Shadow at the Gate" is a beautifully written tapestry of life with all the adventures and strange characters you meet along the way. The author, having been born to a large family on a rural dairy farm in Minnesota, first recalls his early childhood with all the challenges of a family originating from German immigrants living life frugally but fully, earning a living from the land and the animals in the way that built this country. He relates memories ranging from his strict Catholic upbringing to hard, cold winters in a drafty old house that had been built with logs. You share his hardship and joy as a larger home is being built to accommodate the growing family. He watches and learns from his no nonsense father who taught him everything from assisting with the birth of a breach calf to the cobbling of worn shoes. And you feel the love and tenderness of his mother as she nurtures her large family. I especially enjoyed his recollections of Christmastime as a young boy on the farm. After being educated in Catholic schools and completing the seminary to become a priest, Bloch realizes he knows nothing of life beyond his sheltered boyhood. So begins a quest to experience life beyond the boundaries of Stearn's County. He leaves Minnesota with only a bedroll, a change of clothes and a few dollars in his pocket, and begins a series of rollicking adventures as he hitchhikes his way across country to sunny California. There begins a life of hopping freight trains and staying in hobo camps until he receives word that he is to report for duty in the United StatesAirforce to which he had enlisted after leaving the seminary. In the Airforce we get to go with him through pilot training and ultimately being assigned as an instructor pilot for the Airforce in Laredo, Texas. After six years in the Airforce, he begins a whole new chapter of his life as an undercover agent and pilot for the infamous DEA....Drug Enforcement Administration. We are told that his adventures, and misadventures, during those days are being saved for another book coming out next year. I will be looking forward to reading that one!Mr. Bloch's vivid descriptions and keen sense of humor bring his memories to life for the reader, reminiscent of Thomas Wolfe in "Look Homeward Angel". I highly recommend this book. You will smile, laugh out loud, and ocassionally shed a few tears. Personally, I could not put it down while reading about his challenges and experiences during his year in pilot training for the Airforce. "Shadow" is an inspiring read and an honest study of the human spirit in all it's variation. I am still enjoying it as I reflect on my favorite passages. Definitely five stars!D.L. Enmon

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. A must read book! By MLconnolly Don was my T-37 instructor when I was a student pilot in the USAF in 1967. He was a black and white, matter of fact, all cards on the table, no nonsense kind of guy. Totally different from the other instructors. I could tell there was a real person in there somewhere. I learned of many of his adventures he relates in this book and remembered them through the years. When we again met 27 years later, our friendship picked up as if it had always continued without that break. This is a great book! First, for us older readers, it vividly brings back memories of an earlier time and a similar upbringing. I constantly compared his meager conditions to my same lot in life when I was young. It brought back events I had not thought of or remembered for years. Secondly, this man can write, he is a wordsmith. I compare him to Mark Twain and Robert Ruark. His descriptions place you in the adventure with him. One can feel that they actually went to all the places with him and shared the emotions he felt. I found myself many times stopping to re-read a sentence and think about its great construction and how it described so clearly its intent. I highly recommend this book and can't wait to read his second one.

It gave me lots of new ideas on what I can do with all my old photos (and some of the newer ones) to give my children and grandchildren some insight into our family's history. I wish it were available in paperback...It would be easier to refer to it while I'm working on my project.

Discredited journalist Ella Jerome isn’t thrilled about working at Adelaide’s fanciful tabloid the Informer. So when zoologist Adam Lowell seeks her help in finding his missing cousin, she’s cynical of his claim a monster lurks near the Church of the Resurrection. The trouble is, solving the gruesome case could be her best shot at restoring her reputation. With her old instincts resurfacing, Ella combs the Port for clues. Experience tells her the only monsters are the human variety, and the bloodied stonemason certainly raises her suspicions. But when her investigation turns up everything from petrified remains to the headless carving of a dragon, the truth threatens to steal both her sanity and the man she’s falling for. After all, gargoyles can’t be anything other than harmless stone. Or can they?

I just picked something for a quick read on my Kindle but I was surprised at how well written, and how unpredictable, this particular book was. I was so immersed from the start I spent way too much time reading and not getting all my chores done. Oh well, there's always time for chores, but there aren't always books this much fun to read. I particularly liked the idea of living grotesques. (I didn't know they weren't called gargoyles.) I recommend this book to any one who wants a good mystery/horror book to devour.

Great novel By Amazon Customer I enjoyed this book very much despite that fantasy is not my genre .It can be classified as a thriller/detective/fantasy all in one. It is very well written and keeps one wanting to read more to find out 'what next'? Very original and hard to guess how it is all going to end.The author managed to tie all the characters well and bring it all together to a fantastic end. I shall look out for more books by this author.

I was sucked in from the start (which a book HAS to do in order to keep me reading) and I found the mystery quite intriguing. The storytelling was original, the imagination refreshing and I never really knew what to expect, which was impressive. There was obviously some serious research that went into the backstory and that is a thing I really love in fantasy books - I feel it grounds the plots and the characters in the real world. I loved the character of Romain especially, and the twisty-turny way that he was involved in the plot - he's not your typical 'Quasimodo!' I did find the character of Genord a little stereotypical but that would be the only negative I can see.I'm looking forward to other books by this author. Her imagination is gripping and I think she can spin a great story.

14 of 15 people found the following review helpful. Da Vinci Code Best Seller? Angels and Demons debería serlo más By Pablo Martinez-Castro No estoy seguro porqué Da Vinci Code adquirió tanto renombre si Angels and Demos es MUY superior.

42 of 55 people found the following review helpful.

Read Ebook A Teacher's Tale: A Memoir, by Joe Gilliland

It was never in author Joe Gilliland's plan to become a teacher, certainly not a college teacher and most certainly not an English teacher. But that's what happened, and he's never looked back. In A Teacher's Tale, he explains, how by neither planning for nor seeking a life of learning and teaching, lacking a syllabus or lesson plan, he discovered that a life in academe lay in his path-a path he's followed for more than fifty years.

A Teacher's Tale begins in 1932 with Gilliland's first experiences in schooling and concludes in the summer of 1955 just as he completes his apprenticeship and stands on the brink of becoming a qualified instructor in a small college in east Texas. This memoir presents a collection of stories about his experiences as a teacher and a college student.

A story of schooling deeply immersed in the arts and humanities, A Teacher's Tale shares Gilliland's love of the university and how it compelled him to seek a life devoted to teaching, primarily in the community college arena. Through this narrative, he brings together a philosophy of higher education based on the importance of arts and humanities in today's high- tech world.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Dr Gilliland's Memoir Tells Us What Is Right About Teaching By Warren johansen Dr Joe Gilliland is a rare individual. He is an award winning college professor who is also an acclaimed writer. In A Teacher's Tale he weaves the story of his youth, his father's early death, his intellectual awakening, his growth as a student, his eventual emergence as an embryo literary scholar, his years in the American military in Japan and he caps this lengthy, but well written and interesting memoir, with an analysis of the forces shaping his life. This book is over 600 pages of sheer intellectual and academic joy. As you read the memoir, Dr. Gilliland has the education, the drive, the interest and the dedication to become a productive-publishing scholar. He was a scholar in the classroom. He dedicated his life to teaching, hence the title, A Teacher's Tale. He might have titled it A Professor's Tale. He didn't. Dr. Gilliland considered that pompous. This is the essence of this beautifully crafted memoir-that essence is to stay true to your academic direction. Dr. Gilliland did and this extraordinary memoir takes us through his early years. The best is yet to come in volume 2. I can't wait. It is a tale of academic freedom and the joys of community college teaching.

By mariwinn Many elements make good teachers, and learners – and the lifetime process never stops. That is the most evident, memorable message in A Teacher’s Tale by Joe Gilliland (True Directions.)Defining instructors and students in a broad sense, Gilliland appeals to both academic and informal audiences, but his book--an obese 611+ pages--can be a nourishing and healthy look in minute detail at how a youngster discovers and nurtures his love of learning, kindles his thirst for ideas in both the sciences and literature, makes classroom contacts and assembles life experiences. You may not have heard of Gilliland. He is not a former U.S. education commissioner, famed college president or dean. He wants to modestly be considered a Texas lad who was eager to try different routes, test different approaches on his way to teaching at 4-year institutions and community colleges here and abroad. The resulting memoir shows his apparent photographic memory for conversations he had in the first grade or while a missionary teacher in Japan or serviceman in Korea. While at times massive self-assurance seem to replace focus, cogency and pointed power as the many pages unfold, the book nonetheless has a certain charm and value to readers who are educators, students, parents, or simply those who like to absorb ideas from others. Although autobiographical, A Teacher’s Tale also transfers to anyone who realizes that we are all perpetual “students” in either the formal or informal sense. The book also provides some direction and solace to graduate students wondering, like Gilliland, whether they should pick medicine or music or communications for a career—or may want to teach, passing their philosophies of life along to others. Gilliland says that his "philosophy of higher education is based on the importance of the arts and humanities in today's high tech world."There are specific examples of great teachers at places overseas, junior colleges or giant campuses like the University of Texas at Austin. But many of the most memorable examples of good teaching, true learning and growth come from army buddies, fraternity brothers and instructors whose fame lies in their students’ memories, not in the instructors'rungs on the ladder toward tenure. What are the qualities of a good teacher, in a giant classroom? Tolerance, adaptability, eagerness to change, and passion for ideas as an active lifestyle develops are a few clues Gilliland offers through personal example, not just classroom theory or nostalgia. If teachers by any definition want to pass their thoughts to others, the author suggests, he or she must truly care about and interact with students....not just see them as gradebook insertions. The Gilliland memoir begins in 1932 with his first experiences in schooling and ends in 1955 as he prepares to launch his career as an instructor in a small college in Texas. Along the way he wrestles with the importance of science and great literature. At one point, as he presses an instructor for an opinion, he is told to make up his own mind, not just absorb someone else’s thoughts as his own. Readers should agree that this is good advice.by Jack L. Kennedy - full review in the Joplin Independent

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. this is a wonderful biography. From coastal Texas By Madame2u If you are not a bibliophile, don't choose this book. This is a story of a man and his odyssey as mirrored through the literature that sculpted his life. Yes, if you're a WWII veteran, it will have an appeal as well. Gilliland's memory for details is what gives the book its personality and flair. If you are a budding literatus or a sage of the written word, if you are pedant of the by-ways of academia or simply a casual pedestrian on the pleasant road of life/literary experience, this is a wonderful biography. From coastal Texas, to the forests of Germany, to the curious world of post-War Japan, you will love Joe's tale of learning, love, and literature. And if you don't pick up Leavis or Fitzgerald after you finish, you didn't connect at all. Vonnegut would love this man.

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION The story of a listless professor who reunites with his teenage crush. Almost twenty years after the publication of The Whale’s Belly, Javier Cercas, now one of the fundamental writers on the European scene, has taken on a fascinating challenge: to revise the book written by the novelist he used to be; to confront his own origins. The result is a novel that is at once recognizable and new, where the mature author’s wisdom and efficacy manage to strengthen the freshness and humor of his younger self. In this way, the tragicomic experience of thirty-something Tomás, immersed in a transformation as profound as that of Jonas in the belly of the wale, gives rise to an extraordinary, hilarious, and melancholy tale, filled with unforgettable characters, through which the reader travels as though through an ironic coming-of-age novel in which nobody learns anything except that there is nothing to learn, or which can only be learned by accepting the inextricable complexity of human relationships, the perplexities of the heart, and the illusions of happiness.

"On the farm, first you worked, then you had breakfast." Born to poor tenant farmers in rural Italy in 1950, Giuseppe Schiavo’s mother, who already has ten children and is ill, gives her newborn baby away to her best friend to nurse. Carmela Cedrone and her husband Domenico, whose five children all died in childbirth, welcome Giuseppe with open arms. He happily grows up with his stepparents in an old stone farmhouse. When he turns ten, Giuseppe’s birth parents suddenly reclaim him and immediately put him to work on their farm. Eventually, his birth father makes him quit school. In one day, Giuseppe goes from the beloved only child of landowners to a stranger in his birth family of sharecroppers. In this collection of short stories, Giuseppe describes his journey from cherished adopted stepson to child farm labourer to his immigration to Canada, where he becomes a well-respected master stonemason who lives by the words, "First we eat. Then we do."

By Rose Mary Craig I thought the author succeeded in achieving that perfect balance of “the personal and the universal”. It was Giuseppe’s personal story yet a story that would certainly resonate with post-war European readers. I suspect the parceling out of children, having big families to work the farm, and the struggle to get out from under the dictatorship of landlords (or bosses) is also something many people can relate to. In addition, the subtext of Giuseppe’s family’s struggles probably mirrors what was happening in Italy at the time – again, the political, the personal, the universal.

For over 14 years, Philip DiMeo, a talented cartoonist and social worker, led a double life, masquerading as a fully sighted person, while becoming blind. What prompted him to hide his condition? Pride, and fear that if his impending blindness were discovered he would lose all that was important. He concealed his vision loss, a secret that he believed could potentially ruin his life, but in hindsight opened doors. At most social functions, fearful that he would trip, bump into someone, or knock something over, his wife propelled him around. Ignoring warnings from his ophthalmologist, he continued driving despite a series of auto accidents which included driving onto railroad tracks while an oncoming train approached. Philip reveals that, despite diagnoses by three ophthalmologists and three optometrists, he denied having retinitis pigmentosa, an inherited degenerative eye disease that causes severe vision impairment and often blindness. When Philip finally confronted his disability, he found that the challenges of his vision loss were the springboard to achievements to come. Binoculars is a sensitive, amazing, and astonishingly revealing first-hand account of a man who achieves incredible feats with his courage and talent, while finally coming to terms with his blindness

Phil had a way of sharing his life experience that made me feel like I was going though it with him. I knew what it was like to be going blind and it was painful. At the same time, his sense of humor made it bearable and fun. His own response and what amazing things he has done with his life after accepting his situation was very inspiring. I highly recommend this book. It is a great read and a true story.

Nomination for an Award By Joan Hall Just found out that Binoculars-- Masquerading as a Sighted Person has been nominated for the following in the inspirational memoir category:The Books for a Better Life Awards is pleased to announce the honorees for the 19th Annual Awards ceremony. The event, hosted by television personality Meredith Vieira will honor Dr. Mark Hyman, founder of The UltraWellness Center and Director of The Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine, and Mark Tauber, Senior Vice President and Publisher of HarperOne, a division of HarperCollins Publishers. The sheer determination to live with impaired sight from childhood (mis diagnosis) to the loss of eyesight as an adult is truly inspirational. To coach a coed softball team to many championships, to having a book published and overcome the disability speaks volumes for Phil DiMeo's life force. On a personal level Phil has lifted the spirits of myself and many other through his cartoons and sense of humor. To have him as a friend is a gift.

By Marsha Raniewicz I worked with Phil the summer of 1968 at Koziesko Playground as the recreation directors. He was so much fun to work with and I never guessed that he had vision problems. He hid it completely. I absolutely loved reading his book and discovered what an amazing person he turned oujt to be. He was lucky to find a wonderful woman to be his wife and share in his experiences. I highly recommend this book to everyone--even those who aren't going blind. Great job, Phil. Hope you remember me.
