Reed’s No Exceptions series, and this is actually the first book I’ve read of J.C. Reed. I have the Surrender Your Love Trilogy on my kindle and now I need to find time to actually read it. (Yup…cue kick in the butt for not reading J.C. Reed’s books sooner. I’m blaming it on my crazy college schedule I had and my never-ending review list of books). **I also have two little ones who won’t let me read all day, every day. *sigh* One day…I will be able to again…LOLI loved J.C. Reed’s writing style and how she gripped me into The Lover’s Secret from the first chapter. For any readers out there that have read the Surrender Your Love Trilogy, you will recognize Brooke and Jett. If there is one thing I enjoyed about The Lover’s Secret is how J.C. Reed started off the book. Yup…the first chapter was my favorite and how she introduced Brooke and Jett to me.Brooke and Jett are together in this book and trying to have some romantic time together, but there are mysteries at hand and secrets being kept. Brooke has a lot of issues from what has happened in the past that she is trying to get over. There is also the fact, Jett is acting weird and keeping something from her.J.C. Reed did it make easy to follow Brooke and Jett, but I felt I probably would have enjoyed this book more if I read the previous trilogy of these two. I got lost at times with the characters and I really need to know how these two first met. I also want to know why Brooke even considered hooking up with Jett in the first place. He started like a jerk at first who turned into a nice guy…or at least he’s maybe a nice guy. He has some major secrets that I must find out about. Don’t get me wrong, the guy has a way in the bedroom….but he is up to something.I give this book 4 full moons, and recommend it to readers of contemporary romance and readers that are fans of J.C. Reed’s previous trilogy. This book is full of suspense, mystery, lies, and romance that will take you for a ride. Warning…there is a cliffhanger at the end. Brooke finds out something that could change everything in her life. Poor girl. I was very sympathetic towards her, especially in her current situation. I definitely plan on reading the next book in this series, and I now need to find more time to read the trilogy. I may end up re-reading this book after I do read the trilogy, so I can get a better grasp of it.I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

People fail, a few get up, but there’s never a guarantee that their second attempt will work out.”J.C. Reed is one of my favorite authors, when she came out with the Surrender Your Love trilogy… I about died with glee. I’m so in love with the characters, the words, and just the entirety of Ms. Reed. I wasn’t at all surprised when I found out that she had a new book coming out, that I would absolutely adore it. I was so enthralled when I learned that it was a continuation of Brooke and Jett’s story. This is probably one of my most loved and hated couples in a book series. There are so many different aspects of each of them that I loved/hated at the same time. Even though this is technically a continuation of Brooke and Jett, it CAN be read as a standalone. However, that being said – I really do suggest that you read the Surrender Your Love series, and I suggest you read that series first. Whether you read it before or after you read this, you totally need to read it, because so many things fall into place, and you will be so much more understanding of the relationship between the two of them.Brooke and Jett both have baggage. The connection between them is inescapable though, and you’ll immerse yourself completely in their passion. Having a difficult past can catch up with you, and they’re both trying to work on their issues with one another in this new spin off series. While Jett is a wealthy business man, he’s the epitome of an alpha male. He has the entire sexy bad boy thing going for him. Even when he’s this big, strong, god of a man… when it comes to Brooke he’s completely a puddle of puppy love mud. The connection between the two is fireworks."....you're the risk I'll always take."Brooke is a beautiful, strong-willed, stubborn female. While dealing with her past, she can’t help but have doubts about her future. She’s confident about herself, but when it comes to Jett… she’s still leery of what he did to her in the past, and what may come of their future. I totally sympathize with her and relate to her with her hurt emotions and the fact that she’s scared. Dealing with trust issues is a hard thing to break, especially if someone is a repeat offender.“It’s your right to have wishes and dreams. We all have them. It’s what makes us who we are – susceptible, stupid, and blind. But love gives us hope to live another day.”Since I wasn’t expecting another story about Brooke and Jett, I was thrilled and excited to see what would be in store for me in this new novel. I have to say, J.C. Reed does not disappoint. I was completely floored with some of the inconsistent and mysterious things started happening to Brooke again. Once again, I began to hate on Jett, not giving him even a LITTLE benefit of the doubt. I hope that in the next book, he explains himself very well… because if I were Brooke, I would definitely give that man a verbal beat down! I mean, REALLY!? How can you keep such a thing a secret from the woman who you love!? Don’t worry – I won’t tell you. You HAVE to read it!“Just looking at him, I felt drugged, as if the chemical reactions in my brain were some complex cocktail of sex-fueled hormones, waiting to diffuse.”I love the fact that J.C. Reed leaves you with the element of surprise. This novel was more mystery and suspense than I expected and I LOVED it. I was completely intrigued by the demons of the past meeting the present, and bringing them into the future.“When you walked away the first time, I thought about you every minute of the day, wishing I could turn back time and meet you under different circumstances.”I wasn’t ready for this book to end, and now I can’t wait for the second book in the series, The Lover’s Game. Honestly, if I don’t find out what is going to happen between the couple… I might just die. Anticipation will have me sulking until the next book releases!!! As always, J.C. Reed delivered an astonishing read that won’t be forgotten. You’ll be so entranced in the story that you’ll devour this novel in one sitting and not even realize that you kept going. It’s one of those books that you just can’t stop. If you stop… you’re sitting there tapping your fingers and counting the seconds until you can get right back into the story. I HIGHLY recommend this novel, as well as the pre-series Surrender Your Love. Again – I would insist that you read Surrender Your Love series first, that way you’ll understand the characters more and be more in depth with their past.

I recommend you read the Surrender series first to begin with Jett and Brooke’s journey. The No exception series picks up right after the Surrender series. The book is written from Brooke's POV.Jett and Brooke continue to work on their hot romance before their baby arrives. They have amazing chemistry, the sex is hot and who wouldn’t want an alpha male to protect you. Jett decides to fulfil one of Brooke’s fantasies by providing her with a night full of hot steamy sex, and oh boy does he fulfill her needs. Brooke could never resist the beautiful green eye, “never say no to me” Jett Mayfield. The night is going wonderful until Brooke’s insecurities get the best of her. It all starts with a conversation between the two of them and her stumbling across information that has been mysteriously kept from her.Jett leaves her in a hurry the next day for an unexpected meeting which upsets Brooke. She was looking forward to some alone time with him. Brooke finds herself questioning their relationship, she has felt betrayed by Jett before by targeting her for the Lucazzone estate she recently inherited. The feeling that he’s keeping something from her is weighing heavily on her conscious. She wonders if she can still trust him. She does love him after all, and wonders if love alone can make a relationship last. Brooke needs some much needed girl time and decides to meet her best friend Sylvie at the bistro but on her way out of the hotel she suddenly gets a horrible feeling in the pit of her stomach as if someone is watching her. She runs as fast as she can to the bistro. After talking with her best friend she decides to head back to the hotel, when she arrives at the hotel the clerk has an envelope addressed to her. No one knows she is there and gets a nauseated feeling in her stomach that she isn’t going to like what’s inside that envelope. Brooke opens it and all her fears come true. She is devastated by what’s in front of her and needs to find Jett fast to get some clarification. Once she locates Jett, she sees something that turns her world upside down! Can their relationship survive what she sees? Find out in the next installment of the series.This book has so much emotion it leaves your stomach feeling as if you just stepped of a roller coaster. The story starts out with a relationship healing from traumatic experiences to sudden string of deceitful lies. The author did an amazing job, she keeps you on pins and needles with the characters. The chapters had me rushing to the next to see what would happen next. You can’t get enough of Jett and Brooke. The book does end on a cliffhanger. We can’t wait for the next book to see what Brooke will do with her new uncovered information and how will Jett explain!We highly recommend this book!
