About the Author (Based on actual events that co-author, Serita Stevens, experienced as a nurse on the teen ward in psych hospitals. Teen psychiatric wards are often throw-away places for children whose parents can t handle them.) Serita Stevens is an award-winning author and screenwriter with over 30 published books and short stories. Her titles include the bestseller Book of Poisons (Writer s Digest Books), The Forensic Nurse (St. Martin s Press), the prequel for the TV series, Cagney and Lacey, and The Transylvania Art Heist: The Chas Allen Story (2015). Stevens holds a Master s Degree in Communications and Writing from Antioch University in London, England and has taught at UCLA, USC, and Loyola Marymount University, among others. She is an active member of Women in Film. Jo Schaffer is an author, speaker, and blogger who studied Arts and British literature in London, England. She is a founding member of Writers Cubed, a non-profit organization formed to promote literacy, and co-creator of Teen Author Boot Camp (TABC), the largest teen author conference in the United States. Internationally recognized authors who have presented at TABC include James Dashner (The Maze Runner) and Ally Condie (Matched). Jo is also involved in independent film.

Compelling Page Turner By LK Gardner-Griffie Best-selling author, Serita Stevens, has teamed up with first-time author, Jo Schaffer to present a gripping account of what goes on behind the closed doors of a teen psych ward. From the very first page, they portray at-risk teens in their most vulnerable moments, struggling to overcome their past while fighting to survive in a place they don't belong. Stevens and Schaffer depict realistic teens battling circumstances beyond their control.As soon as I saw this book, I knew I had to read it. Cassidy Connor gives a character who is hard, yet vulnerable, and makes me want to scoop her up and protect her, just like Edgar, her one-eyed cat.

Bergmann This book summoned up almost tangible memories from my youth. Fluid and descript, the author captured such real struggles and raw emotions that are all too common for so many teens. The extreme circumstances that the characters deal with will have you turning the pages in suspense. Jo Schaffer did an excellent job developing the characters and sugar coating nothing. Although the topics were dire and tragedies struck, an uplifting message can be found and anybody (parent, teen, teacher, anyone who has ever been a teen, etc.) would benefit from reading this book. This book did not disappoint.

I read it because my 14 year old grand daughter recommended I read it after I bought it for her. If a 14 year old and a 54 year old can read this and both like the book that says alot right there!! I would definitely recommend this book to all ages over 13
