Gaia save the Queen… Emma Stonetree’s father is missing. Worse yet, her uncle’s gone too, leaving her and her two cousins, Jasper and Jade, floundering for an explanation. All Emma can think of are their fathers’ stories—tall tales of magic, mystery, and a whole host of shifter races. Stories she might not have believed, if not for her own research into the matter—research that hardly prepares her for the trials of magic she and her cousins will endure as they set off that Midwinter’s night to discover their roots. Nor does it prepare her for what she finds on the other side of the mystical portal her father disappeared into: the ursa, a fertility-focused race of bear shifters, with customs that defy her human sensibilities. Except she swiftly learns she isn’t really human either, and once inside the ursa Sanctuary, she is just as bound by their laws as the earth is bound by the seasons. Emma must make a choice: accept her legacy as the heir to the ursa matriarchy, accept the love she finds with a pair of fertile ursa males, or reject her passion and retreat to her safe, mundane life, never to return to the realm she was meant to inherit—and the men that come as a package deal. The Black Mountain Bears trilogy includes three books to be read in order: Book 1: Clawed Book 2: Bitten Book 3: Nailed Also look for four other great trilogy collaborations by Amelie Hunt: Winter Pass Wolves, with Vivian Wood Emerald Isle Tigers, with Cass Reynolds Sunset Glade Panthers, with Sennah Tate Arctic Station Bears, with Maeve Morrick

By Tanja Emma is furious at first, another scientist has as good stole all her basic research. on top of that when she has to get on stage to talk about her own work, she manages to trip and make a fool of herself. embarrassed to the tenth degree she tries to drink her sorrow away at the hotel bar. the other scientist approaches her and offers to swap research, unsure whether to believe her. as she’s offered the research on a thumb drive, she’s quick to return the gesture. back home she has a serious discussion with her nephew and niece. the added research confirms so many thing they were already thinking. with both their fathers missing they’re, at first, divided on what to do. in the end the decide that repeating the annual walk they did with their father is the way to go.after a day long trek through the forest, they’re surroundings are changing, old stories surfacing and making things fuzzy.delirious, bordering on passing out, she notices two shadows following her. first cold, now feeling hot she mindlessly strips one layer of clothing after the other, giving her two shadows an eyeful.making the last few steps are just exhausting and just as she made it past the border she loses it. that’s when her two shadows make themselves known, helping her. it doesn’t take long for her to register that her body is changing, she feels hot, feels likes she’s horny. too horny. but her two companions help her cope, they explain what they can in very shady terms. calling her princess all the time is confusing to say the least, same as the revelation that her mother is not far away. a mother she never knew!as this tale progresses she meets her mother and aunt, finds her father and uncle. but not to forget, she got separated from her niece and nephew. this sparks an outrage at the court and a big search is set up, they weren’t supposed to cross over.in the midst of all this so much is told and revealed. then she has to make the biggest choice in her life. will she help out the clan? will she choose personal happiness?she can’t just abandon her new found kin but she can’t just give up on her happiness either.this is well written and sucks you right in. i expect nothing else from Ophelia.it’s a thrilling tale and i can’t wait to read the next part and so how the others are doing. maybe have a small revisit to Emma and see how she is doing.free copy gifted in exchange for an honest review.

By Karma Parade I've come to really enjoy Ophelia Bell while reading her Dragon series and had fallen in love with the different, distinct personalities and traits of each of the characters. The plot was well-written, the sex scenes were scorching hot and amazing, and the stories all wove together to reach a satisfying conclusion. I guess I shouldn't have gone into this trilogy thinking that it would be the same as the Dragon series. The premise is sound: the ursa are another immortal race of beings and Emma, another intrepid researcher, has figured out that she was somehow linked to them. The story was too short to flesh out the plot much, so we are almost immediately dumped into Sanctuary where she meets her mother while her twin cousins, who were lost on the way through, are hovering on the brink of death. Guess what? Emma's a bear princess! She goes into heat , or "estrous" as the author calls it, and she must be serviced by males to relieve her of excess magic! She falls for the two men who are given the task of relieving her even though she has been promised to another clan. Then, the twins show up with more bears, Emma has to get pregnant to save them, and she ends up with her two men. I guess my biggest gripe with this book was the shortness of it. The sex scenes were pretty good, though I've read much hotter by Bell, but I was let down that she hinted at a sexual relationship between the two men, but never explored that. I love Ophelia Bell, but I just felt like this storyline was rushed and not fleshed out enough. On to the next one anyway...

Mobley I love shifter menages but there were so many unanswered questions that it left to much of a mystery for me. The writing was clear and concise and the characters were likeable but I guess I don't really like cliff hangers is my real problem. Even if the book is part of a series I like to have a sense that this part of the story has been wrapped up. It just seemed that the story moved to fast with a lot of instant love and the rush for the heroine to be pregnant. One day she is one person and literally the next day she is someone completely different and she didn't seem to question much of what was going on around her. She fell in to quickly with so much unbelievable stuff and that makes it hard for me to relax into the story. I also like much stronger male shifters. There was to much inequality in the characters for the pairing to be a true bonding. Maybe if the story has been a bit longer I would have had time to adjust to all of the goings on. I am hoping the next book goes a bit slower and allows for more adjustment time. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

A fun, humorous romance...with ghosts! B-movie actress turned real estate agent Elizabeth Hunt should have it made. The real estate market is thriving and she has a fabulous house to sell. Too bad the house is in Banshee Creek, a tiny Virginia hamlet that has been recently crowned as the “Most Haunted Town in America.”  But with the help of the Banshee Creek Historical Preservation Committee, Elizabeth hopes to put the ghost stories to rest. Her hometown will again be known for its vintage homes, its heirloom apple orchards, and its historical, not phantasmagorical, attributes, and she won’t let anyone, even her long-time crush, Gabe Franco, stand in her way.

Ghost of a Chance: A Haunting Paranormal Romantic Comedy (Banshee Creek Book 2), by Ani Gonzalez

From the Author Ghost of a Chance is the second book in the Banshee Creek series and the first full-length novel. It can be read as a standalone and has no cliffhanger. The Banshee Creek series is a light and sexy paranormal small town series set in a quirky haunted town. Warning: There's ghostly hijinks, cryptic sightings and plenty of hunted house sexiness. Proceed at your own risk.

From the Inside Flap Gabe pushed her away and stared. The hair was lighter, but the cheekbones and the eyes, those were all painfully familiar. He hadn't seen her in years. Hell, not even at Cole's funeral. Well, he'd noticed her there, but he hadn't seen her. She'd been a slender figure in black with pulled-back hair, nothing like the dazzling bombshell in front of him now. He'd watched her low-budget movie, Cannibal Clones from Alpha Centauri or something like that, but she'd been a brunette then. She'd played the alien villainess, Princess Something. Apparently, Alpha Centauri princesses wore very little clothing, or, at least, the cannibal ones did. He'd watched the movie with Cole and, as a result, spent much time staring at the ceiling trying to avoid staring at his best friend's little sister's bellybutton. Cole's dad had been livid, but Gabe had been amused. It was exactly the sort of trouble he'd expect Elizabeth to get into. But he wasn't amused now. What was Elizabeth doing, picking up guys in Banshee Creek? Successfully picking up guys in Banshee Creek, no less. Hell, he'd almost made out with Cole's sister. Cole's baby sister, who he wanted to kiss more than he wanted his next breath. He tried to think of what Cole would do to him if he were here. Then he decided that he really, really didn't want to think of what Cole would do. It would be painful. And he'd thoroughly deserve it.  And yet he still wanted to kiss her. Hell. This was hell.

From the Back Cover B-movie actress turned real estate agent Elizabeth Hunt should have it made. The real estate market is thriving and she has a fabulous house to sell. Too bad the house is in Banshee Creek, a tiny Virginia hamlet that has been recently crowned as the "Most Haunted Town in America." But with the help of the Banshee Creek Historical Preservation Committee, Elizabeth hopes to put the ghost stories to rest. Her hometown will again be known for its vintage homes, its heirloom apple orchards, and its historical, not phantasmagorical, attributes, and she won't let anyone, even her long-time crush, Gabe Franco, stand in her way. Gabe has a big problem. His new marketing campaign for Banshee Creek Cidery is based on one thing, ghosts, but the Historical Preservation Committee nutcases are trying to erase the town's spookier traditions. He has to stop them before they render his investment worthless. Unfortunately, the leader of the anti-ghost crusade is all-too-tempting Elizabeth Hunt, his best friend's sister and the one woman who is strictly off limits. But when Elizabeth rallies the townsfolk against him, Gabe wonders if he'll lose his business...or his heart.

Haggerty Ghost of a Chance is such a fun idea – a town full of honest to goodness ghosts and the resident small-town-boy-makes-good determined to profit from said ghosts come hell or high water. And Gabe was always right so he was going to do what he came to do. I loved Elizabeth. She was quirky and fun, but I also liked how she tried to find her inner sex kitten with her childhood crush Gabe. She also had a backbone and was too stubborn for her own good. Gabe I didn’t like so much. Who likes a guy who thinks he’s always right – even if he is always right? And boy did he make me mad at the end. When will men learn to take responsibility for their actions?Gonzalez’s writing is witty and lots of fun. I wouldn’t characterize this novel as a paranormal romance as then readers expect one of the characters to have paranormal abilities and that’s definitely not the case in Ghost of a Chance. I did feel like the transitions from scene to scene stuttered and weren’t as smooth as they could have been. Personally, I think this type of novel can be shorter, but that’s just a personal preference. My biggest issue with the novel was the ending. It was way too abrupt for me. I like to have more time to enjoy the happiness the couple finds. This is my second book from Gonzalez and I would definitely read more.

Great continuation of a series, but can be read as a stand alone just as well - romance with a twinge of the paranormal By Ramona Plant It's official, I am hooked on this series. Ghost of a chance is a completely separate story from the first one, just has overlapping characters. Ani is an excellent writer who knows how to write a paranormal love story. The book has a very good pace and is extremely well written. Her characters are always a unique mix of character, hardly ever what you expect and somehow she makes it work. Elizabeth reminds me of some people I know in real life, and is quite the handful who has quite a few demons of her own. Thankfully she finds a way to work through them. Gabe is an excellent counter part and matches her very well. He is definitely a character that you will enjoy. This book being read as an individual book works very well, but having read the other book before it is nice to "say hello" again to familiar faces.Excellent work and I look forward to read more books in this series. This is again more of a romance story but with a little paranormal twist.I have received this book from the author for an honest review.

I'm having a good time rotating them in between some of the darker reads. This one brings us back to Banshee Creek to follow the tale of Elizabeth and Gabe. She's had a crush on him forever, but isn't going to let that stop her from trying to shut down his baby - the paranormal element. Yes, it seems to help the paranormal themed places, but as a real estate agent, Elizabeth's job is on the line. Who wants to live in a haunted house?Gabe might have thought that his best friend's sister was off limits in high school, but he's having a harder time keeping his hands off her this time around. They've both grown up and could use something to shake their foundations. This big shake up comes in the form of some pretty disastrous house viewings that only end up bringing them closer together. There's oodles of baggage, but it was fun watching them get their happy ending. These characters are always so much fun!

Mildred believed a life lived under the wing of one's mother was no life at all, so with her death she gave a second birth to her great nephew. She possessed enough to tempt him but not enough to coddle him. When she died, she left it all to Will provided he live in her old house in Roanoke, Virginia for five years. That required Will to leave his mother's comfortable home in Baltimore. What Mildred and her conspirator, Will's father, didn't expect was how a Mama's Boy like Will would convince his very attractive, young mother to allow him to accept the conditions of Mildred's will. Nor could Aunt Mildred have foreseen Will dating three very different women nor anticipated the stupid things he would do in her house and on her furniture. But maybe she did, for Will feels her guidance.

It’s a delightful first novel by William Biddle, a retired economist whose book entertains and enlightens as it captures the logic – and lack thereof – of a newly minted Washington and Lee College graduate.A few lessons that just-baked graduates might take from Mama’s Boy include:1. Always, always be courteous. Ingrained manners help you navigate difficult situations with poise.2. When a great-aunt comes calling at your college, take her to lunch.3. Even as a complete rookie, be honest and fair in your business dealings.4. Be relentless on cold calls; they will pay off.5. Think about how much you drink.6. Be kind. Be generous. Be interested in others.7. Whatever court or field you are playing on, work on being gracious when you lose.8. Be ruthless in managing your money; when you start to make some, learn how to invest it.9. Take joy in walking to work and bringing your lunch. Don’t be afraid to tell people that you do.10. It’s never, never too late to create meaningful relationships with the ones you love.I hope Biddle has another book in him so we can see if and how Will makes better decisions and succeeds in his personal and professional life.

Lessons for those in their 20's (and maybe for those of us in our 60's) By Madison F Cole Jr As a teacher, it is a good sequel to the normal 'coming of age book' for young adults to find out the dilemas that face them in real life. And as Mr. Biddle points out, there are ramifications far beyond the ramifications you experience in college. Mr. Biddle does a good job of exploring the difficulties with love beyond the physical, earning a 'real' living as opposed to pizza money, and handling all the daily difficulties life brings day to day.He also presents his characters in an honest but not overblown manner. We see the normal friction of a newbie in his first real job as well as the family dysfunction that is part of most of our lives. This is done in a way with some lessons along the way that all of us could learn--courteous behavior, honorable behavior, frugality, and a real attempt to try and do the wright thing. Finally, it is written in a very readable style that is neither dismissive nor preachy.Very good book.

Will's Will a Winner- By John Rhein I have applauded Will Biddle’s talent as an award winning play writer, and was delighted to see he brought his skills to his first novel. Mama’s Boy is must read for adolescents and a should read for everybody. Biddle cleverly teaches the dos and don’ts of living by introducing a series of decision making challenges. He vividly analyzes the positive and negative aspects of his situations , and with peppery dialog weaves life’s lessons into an absorbing plot. I could see this book would make a good movie. Its episodic chapters are written as juice drenched scenes. Readers will feel the principal character Will Garlin’s emotions, study his strategies, and watch his self discipline mold his maturation. Biddle’s descriptions of athletic events were fascinating as he brought his analytical acumen into the psychology of conquest. Reading the book is an “edutaining” exercise. You should get it.

Julia dispels all myths of what ppl think undercover life is about. It's not about what we see of television. I can't wait for the movie. Jennifer Lopez or Eva Mendes are the only actresses I could see portraying Julia in a movie about her story. I highly recommend that EVERYBODY reads this book. It's just that good!

Appeals to rookies and old salts "On the job" By leo mcguire Bolder and Braver: My Undercover Life A sister officer, Julia asked me to review the law enforcement part of her gripping 2nd book. By barbara10 Excellent development of character and psychology in this 19th century novel. The setting subtly enhances the novel without turning it into a pop thriller. (Chantry House - means abbey. Many old buildings belonging to the Church were turned into homes for the nobility during the Reformation).

A lost cipher. A race against time to decode it.

Marine archaeologists Kate Wetherall and Lou Bates are diving off Howland Island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, when a torpedo-shaped object hurtles through the water towards them; the fuselage of Amelia Earhart's lost plane. In the cockpit, they find a corroded metal cylinder the size of a baton.

Landing back on US soil, Kate and Lou are arrested and interrogated by special forces, and the cylinder confiscated. Behind the arrests is Glena Buckingham, CEO of the powerful energy conglomerate Eurenergy, as she too has discovered that the wrecked plane may have held precious secret cargo.

Meanwhile, an extraordinary piece of footage has come to light - of Einstein talking about a radical new defence technology he had been working on.

Whoever can decrypt the lost cipher, which holds the key to Einstein's secret defence technology, could hold the key to global power.

The premise had so much potential. The end, however, does a grave injustice to it. Not only is it predictable, it's incomplete. Leaves a lot of questions unanswered, and not in a suspenseful or thoughtful way.As I said, worth a read. It's short and fast paced. But don't expect a classic! If this were a movie, I'd probably rate it a 5.5 on IMDB

Like Clive Cussler But With Colorful Metaphors And Weak Editing - Still Not Bad By Fred Rayworth This is sort of like Clive Cussler with colorful metaphors. The Einstein Code is one big chase, from beginning to end, with hardly any breathing room. The thing is that the two heroes, if I had to compare them to any of Cussler’s characters, would have to be the Fargos, and they spend most of their time playing second fiddle to an MI6 agent. They’re just along for the ride. They don’t really get to do their thing except at the beginning and the end. However, I didn’t really mind because I had a lot of fun getting from point A to B.The read wasn’t without its flaws though. Right off, the writing slapped me with grammatical flaws that had me wanting to grab my editing pencil. Passive phrases, lots of semi-colons, and so much head-hopping, though it was third-person POV, the story came out almost omniscient in spots. Being an Aussie, there was also the Queen’s English, which I gave a pass to and had no issue with. However, I still cringed over and over again at the grammar and have trouble believing the Brits or Aussies allow writing like that. Oh well, once I got used to it, I tried to ignore it and just enjoy the read. It was a challenge at times. There were plenty of things to like, and I don’t want to give any of it away. I will say that despite the main characters being little more than place holders and along for the ride for the majority of the middle of the story, the author did a great job with locations and drew a great picture. Will I read any more of his stuff? Probably. I DID have fun and closed the book with a smile on my face, even though the last page left some ambiguity.

Lissy is predestined for a calling; one she didn’t ask for or want for that matter. The weight of America’s fate rested heavily on Lissy’s shoulders. If she failed, America would be destroyed. Time is ticking. She only has 30 days to wake America up to the danger. She has no connections, no plan, little money and no time. Lissy will face multiple trials and road blocks. Every effort to warn Americans that God’s judgment is about to be rendered upon their very heads, will be thwarted. She will be violently assaulted, thrown in jail, mocked and rejected. Lissy will second guess her calling by God. Was her dream just a product of her over-active imagination? What if it was only a dream? What if it wasn’t? She will question her own sanity. No matter the outcome, her marriage to the one and only love in her life, Glen, will hang in the balance and she has to choose. Lissy will lose friends, family and her spotless reputation as a nurse in a prestigious hospital. It is an enormous price to pay for a dream she is uncertain will ever come to pass. What are her options? If she does nothing and God destroys America, blood will be on her hands and worse; she might be denied access to heaven. If she agrees to be interviewed on national television and other media outlets to warn Americans, she will lose everything. She is sure to be a laughing stock, the butt of all jokes told around every American’s dinner table. The countdown has begun. Will she be able to stop the judgment befalling America? Will they believe her? Does she believe it herself? Can this really be happening to her? To her beloved country? Lissy must focus. God has given her 30 days to convince Americans to repent and turn back to Him. She will do whatever it takes to save America. She has to warn them. She will warn them, no matter what the cost. 30 Days to Redemption, by Lisa Scott

Review This fictional work by Lisa Scott will parallel an end time scenario in warning others to repent before God's judgment. Following a dream Lissy shepherd had in her quiet town in upstate New York would verify that it was a mandate from God to tell people to repent in the U.S. or they would be destroyed after 30 days. Follow the emotions she would experience from the enormity of the task. Disbelief from others including her husband, the loss of her job and the loss of friends would be a price to endure for being "chosen". Lissy would write to major newspapers and magazines, make a Townhall speech, assemble a march in Washington DC, and repeatedly deal with the media. "If she was wrong and her elaborate doomsday vision was indeed just a product of her overreactive imagination, Lissy would undoubtedly be called the laughingstock of the entire world, thoroughly humiliating herself and her entire family." As the time winds down discover the course of events and whether all that was prepared for was what was predicted or if it was a false alarm. This is the novel that will build in intensity. It will demonstrate the human spirit of fear, courage, unbelief, and strong conviction. Just how do others respond in exiting their surroundings and entering another country-for a destruction to occur on a particular date? I enjoyed the plot specifics and would have given it five stars if the timing of events invoked a more realistic feel in the transitions. Overall, it is well written and keeps the reader page turning. If you enjoy suspenseful drama with a strong Christian theme I recommend this book. --By Valerie Caraotta

Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved. September 7th The annual Shepard Labor Day picnic; this would be the very last holiday she’d ever spend together with the entire Shepard family tree intact. If she only knew what was coming, she would have cherished every moment, taken many more photos of her crazy, but deeply loved in-laws, held on to them a little bit longer; said her good-byes properly. This year marked the 10th year and running family tradition with little disappointment. It was chalked full of drama, constant complaining and chaos. This year, it had come to a screeching halt on account of the weather. Thank you Jesus. Overall, it had been a pretty cruddy day to have a picnic. The winds had been too strong, gusting on up and over 35 miles per hour. And there was an unseasonable nip in the air. Thank God it hadn't rained. Lissy Shepard glanced around the inside of their pole barn. Never again would she complain to her husband about the money they'd spent erecting the Godsend. Glen's winning argument had spared her from attempting to cram all 95 Shepard family members into their 1,700 square foot home. Lissy eagerly bid the last of her in-laws a fond farewell, then slowly turned to address the vast expanse of leftovers spilling out of their containers and littering the rows of her rented tables. She shook her head in disbelief. They're like locusts, she marveled. They came. They devoured. They left. "You’ve outdone yourself again, Lissy," Glen said. He closed the gap between them in three long strides. It was a feat he could easily manage. He had a good seven inches over Lissy. He wrapped his arms around her pulling his fingers through her long black hair. She had spent hours slaving over a hot stove in order to pull off another infamous "Shepard Labor Day Family Picnic". And he loved it. It was the one event he looked forward to each year. And it was the only time he got to shine like a brand-new penny in front of his family, overstating his accomplishments for that year and bragging on his beautiful wife and two college-bound children. Let’s face it, Lissy and the kids always made him look good. "The food was incredible," he said. "You used your mother's secret recipe for the chicken marinade, didn't you?" Lissy smiled. She had outdone herself. She pressed her face into Glen’s chest, relishing in the moment. It wasn’t often that he showed her such appreciation. Not that he didn’t appreciate her, it was just that...well... Glen really wasn’t much for expressing what he felt Lissy already knew. That presumption often times left her feeling taken for granted and, undoubtedly, left Glen on the couch for the next few nights, scratching his head. After a few contented sighs, Lissy lifted her pale blue eyes. Glen lightly brushed Lissy's cheek with his thumb. He had a gift for her. One he knew all the money in the world couldn’t buy. And, if he was lucky, later she may want to thank him properly... "Why don’t you head inside and take a nice long, hot bubble bath," he said. "I called Arnie and he’s on his way over. We’ll clean up." Arnie was their next door neighbor and one of Glen’s closest buddies. They became fast friends about 15 years ago when Glen and Lissy had first moved to the quaint little town of Newark, nestled in upstate New York. Arnie had gone over to introduce himself and lend a hand moving in, if needed. After exchanging brief introductions, they soon discovered that they shared the same passion for the best team in the entire National Football League: DA Bears. They've been inseparable ever since. Lissy slowly coaxed Glen’s head down to meet hers, nose to nose. After a very brief kiss, Lissy reluctantly pulled away. Arnie was sputtering up the driveway. "We’re in the pole barn!" Glen shouted as Arnie rounded the corner into their back yard. "I figured," Arnie answered, propelling his voice over the noisy thrumming of his tractor. "Where else were you gonna stack all those people?" He stomped on the brakes and killed the engine. "No way was the Misses gonna have that whole clan inside her house," he said sliding off of his tractor. "There must have been a hundred folks that showed up at your place judging by the parade of cars I have seen streaming up and down the road." "Pretty close to it," Glen chuckled. Glen and Arnie exchanged a quick handshake. Arnie turned and tipped his hat at Lissy. It was his way of saying hello to her. She assumed he didn't say much to her because he was a self-proclaimed atheist. She figured he was afraid she'd literally hit him over the head with her bible. Before long, their conversation shifted to the "big game" coming up that Sunday. The Bears vs. The Packers at Lambeau Field. Lissy saw her chance to exit stage left before Arnie had an opportunity to fully digest the extent of what he had signed up for. Arnie was a kind-hearted fellow, originally from North Carolina. He spoke with that slight southern drawl at the end of every word. In his late 40s, Arnie was closer in age to Glen than Lissy, who was a very attractive 44 and looked more like she was 34. "Sorry I couldn’t make it to the picnic," Arnie said. "I had to... What the!" "Thank you so much for helping Glen clean up!" Lissy blurted out over her shoulder. She was not willing to endure any statements of retraction that Arnie may offer up. Lissy zipped to their back door, and slammed it shut behind her. She headed down the hallway and into their only bathroom, locking the door behind her. Resting her head against the door, Lissy let her eyes roll to the back of her head. It had been a long day. Sweet silence. Well...Almost, apart from Arnie’s impressive use of adjectives, which he loudly projected in order to voice his displeasure. After running her bath water, Lissy shed her clothes and was about to slip in when she was startled by a loud pounding on the bathroom door. "Mom!" Shrilled Natalie. "Nate won’t give me the car keys! Kenya and I are going to the mall to get a new purse for school tomorrow and we need to leave now before it closes!" Kenya Adams was Natalie’s best friend. "I wanna go too!" Nate said. Lissy heard him stomp down the hall towards the bathroom door. "I wanna get some snacks for school tomorrow and she won’t take me with her!” Nate yelled through the door. “I hate having to share a car with her, she’s so--" "Enough!" Lissy said, folding her arms across her chest, shouting through the door. "Why aren't you guys helping your father?" "Dad said it was ok to go to the mall," Natalie said. "Arnie's called a couple of his buddies to come over and help." Lissy puffed out an exaggerated sigh. "Natalie, take your brother with you and be home in two hours. Nate, give her back the keys. Now." "But mom!" Natalie shrieked. "Either you take Nathaniel with you or you don't go." Lissy relaxed as she heard her disgruntled children march out the front door and pull out of the drive way. She slipped into the tub, blasted the hot water and let her mind wander. It seemed like only yesterday that the kids were pulling on her pant leg, demanding, "I want uppie mommy." That fond memory had been replaced with "I want outie mother." She knew it wouldn’t be much longer before she had to watch her beloved chicks fly out of the nest. Natalie was 19, a sophomore in college and Nathaniel, 18, a freshman. Both kids had opted to go to Finger Lakes Community College and live at home to save money, but once they transferred to SUNY Brockport after their sophomore year, they'd move into a dorm room on campus. Lissy slipped into the tub, reflecting on the day’s events. It had been a good day, good food, good family, well…. Mostly. Lissy was thankful for the family God had given her. Glen’s family was all that she had now. Her family had died tragically in a plane crash when she was 18. She was an only child. It wasn’t long after her family had died, that she was introduced to Glen by a mutual friend. Content with the day’s events, Lissy began to pray out loud quietly. "Lord, I just want to thank you for my family. I see the work that you perform in them daily. I'm so grateful that You continue to keep a watchful eye on them. They really have been such a blessing to me. Thank you for the people You've put in my path that have helped keep me sane. You consistently surround me with Your love, grace and mercy. Thank you." Lissy felt a warm sensation sweep across her as heat filled the room. She knew God was there with her. And He was listening. Lissy worshiped God with a song she had written for Him, remembering the very first time she had felt His presence. If she had to relay the experience to someone else using just one word, terrified would be a good one. It was five years ago. Glen and Lissy were in the midst of one of their many cold wars, wherein nobody spoke to the other for days. Glen had always been a great guy, a faithful husband and a doting father, but he also loved his drink. He wasn’t an alcoholic or anything to that extreme, but on occasion Glen would go on these drinking binges. It would usually begin when things got a little tight with the finances, and it always ended with his head in the toilet, the kids crying and Lissy very upset. Truth be told, Glen was belligerent when he was drunk. The violent verbal assaults that would fly out of his mouth would cut her to the bone. Given the choice, Lissy would have taken a punch to the mouth any day over the horrible names he would hurl at her. After one of his tirades, Lissy had decided to try out one of the local churches with the kids one Sunday in search of advice from anyone willing to give it, on how to resolve the not so perfect issues plaguing her within the four walls of the Shepard family home. Lissy had always believed there was a God. She even had the kids baptized when they were babies. Heck, Lissy even made sure the whole family went to church every Easter and Christmas Eve to impress upon them the real meaning for their celebration. At that point in time, Lissy never thought much about having any type of personal relationship with God. She felt that she was a good person and never really worried about the whole "heaven" and "hell" thing. What did worry, she was that Glen’s poor choices were negatively impacting her and their two children. She also worried about her husband, who turned to the bottle for comfort when things got a little tough. She couldn’t comprehend why Glen wasn’t able to cope with what she concluded to be normal everyday life stresses. Lissy had lost her entire family tree in a single day. She’d survived much worse. As the church service began that Sunday morning, Lissy remembered sitting in the cold, hard wooden pew. Her focus had shifted toward the minister, who had just began reciting his early morning sermon. Lissy leaned forward hoping that he would have a personal word for her when all at once, it hit her. A sudden overwhelming sensation of warmth swept straight through the innermost part of her soul. It was a place inside of her that she never knew had existed. A voice of reassurance began to infiltrate her thoughts, insisting that things for her were about to change dramatically. The warm sensations intensified into heat and consumed her entire body. The heat had become so intense that she began to sweat. Lissy jumped out of her seat, completely unaware of the fact that she was causing a huge disruption in the midst of their service. She was desperate to get out of there. Lissy had no idea what was happening to her, but she didn’t want it to continue. The heat she felt wasn’t a burning type of heat that caused pain. It was something completely different. It was foreign to her and even though she’d hate to admit it now, it really did terrify her. Lissy felt a "presence", but she couldn’t see anything. As far as she was concerned, God was up in heaven, somewhere way up in the air-- far, far away. He wasn’t supposed to be down here and He definitely was NOT supposed to be setting up residence inside of her right at that moment. Lissy giggled at the memory. She recalled picking up the pace with her kids firmly in tow as she headed for the exit. She had just made it outside of the large sanctuary doors allowing them to slam shut behind her, when an elderly woman stepped in her path. "The Lord is with you now and your life is about to change drastically and forever." That statement stopped Lissy dead in her tracks. Her knees buckled and hit the floor in one swift motion. The elderly woman, affectionately known as Mama Rosa, placed her hands on the top of Lissy's shaky head. Natalie and Nate looked on; their feet froze in place. "Do you believe Jesus died for your sins?" Rosa asked. "Yes," Lissy whispered. She felt a calming presence overwhelm her senses. She was no longer afraid. She felt...Guilty. Convicted. "Do you want to have a more intimate and personal relationship with Him and our Father?" "Yes." Lissy began to sway on her knees. "Are you willing to ask for forgiveness of your sins and invite Jesus into your life?" Asked Mama Rosa. "Yes." Lissy allowed her body to submit. Her mind, her soul. Her everything. She wanted this. "Then repeat these words after me," Mama Rosa said. "Lord, I am a sinner. I thank you for sending your Son, Jesus Christ, to die for my sins. Forgive me, Lord, of all of my sins as I forgive all others who have sinned against me. Come into my life and change my heart in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen." Lissy had no idea how she was able to repeat all of that, but she knew she wanted to-- and did do it with the assistance of some other source of strength that came from deep inside of her. It was a strength she knew she did not possess. What happened to Lissy next still baffles her mind every time she thinks about it. In one fluid movement, she found herself lying flat on her back right outside of the sanctuary doors. She was fully awake and could hear everything that was going on around her, but Lissy was unable to open her eyes-- and she couldn't get up. Heat continued to sweep through her as she simultaneously felt a pressing down type of feeling. It was as if someone was holding her firmly to the floor. After a couple of minutes, the sensations began to subside. Overcome with emotion, tears streamed down Lissy’s face. All fear and condemnation had been replaced by a peace inside her that could never be explained in the natural. She heard the elderly woman reassuring Natalie and Nathaniel. The kids were amazingly calm, Lissy thought. Ten minutes later Lissy was able to open her eyes and look around. She expected to see who it was that was holding her down. Lissy had assumed it was the elderly woman, but she found no one standing near her. She turned on her side in a feeble attempt to sit up. Her whole body felt like it had been filled with lead. Mama Rosa came to her side and helped her into a nearby chair. Three weeks later Glen swore off all alcohol. He said that he had a "revelation" that drinking wasn’t the answer to his problems and that his occasional excessive use of alcohol might be negatively impacting her and the kids. It was as if he had just flippantly decided to take out the trash. Whatever. It didn't matter. Lissy would take the much needed change in any way she could receive it. Lissy splashed warm water over her exposed knees. What began as a terrifying experience for her five years ago had slowly blossomed into a wonderful relationship with Jesus and her heavenly Father. She flipped the drain switch with her big toe, allowing the water to recede. She wondered when God was going to reach Glen on the same level He had reached her. While God had encouraged him to quit drinking, Glen wasn’t really interested in the whole “church thing". Sure, he went to church with them every Sunday, but most of the time his eyes glossed over during the sermons and, on occasion, Lissy caught him nodding off. Glen did believe there was a God. He also believed, just as Lissy once did, that God was in heaven-- far, far away and someone he wouldn’t meet up with until after he had passed on to the next life. Lissy wanted Glen to have what she had. She loved her husband very much and wanted him to know that he could experience God in this life-- that he didn’t have to wait. Lissy also worried about the status of Glen’s salvation. Glen was a good guy. He’d make it to heaven, right? Drying off half-heartedly and fumbling with the buttons on her plaid pajamas, Lissy headed for bed. It had been a long Labor Day weekend. A car door slammed shut in the driveway-- confirmation that her children were home. Lissy crawled into bed, and was out before her head hit the pillow. Through her bedroom window, darkness came. The crickets sang. The stars hung brightly above the hazy fog. All traces of light had officially disappeared over the horizon, taking with it a whispered promise that all was well.

An intense end time Biblical fiction work By Valerie Caraotta This fictional work by Lisa Scott will parallel an end time scenario in warning others to repent before God's judgment. Following a dream Lissy shepherd had in her quiet town in upstate New York would verify that it was a mandate from God to tell people to repent in the U.S. or they would be destroyed after 30 days. Follow the emotions she would experience from the enormity of the task. Disbelief from others including her husband, the loss of her job and the loss of friends would be a price to endure for being "chosen".Lissy would write to major newspapers and magazines, make a Townhall speech, assemble a march in Washington DC, and repeatedly deal with the media. Just how do others respond in exiting their surroundings and entering another country – for a destruction to occur on a particular date? I enjoyed the plot specifics and would have given it five stars if the timing of events invoked a more realistic feel in the transitions. Overall, it is well written and keeps the reader page turning. If you enjoy suspenseful drama with a strong Christian theme I recommend this book.

When God finally says enough and gives the United States a 30 day warning to repent and make him the center of their l7ves or be destroyed; will the people heed the warning? This book follows the end times that we now face.I could not stop listening. The plot continually builds throughout. If I understood correctly this is book one in a trilogy. I hope the continuation happens soon, as the characters make the listener care for them.

People just like when the bible was written they don't want to believe what is going to happen at the end of time. This book is very powerful reading and is hard to put down. I can't wait for the next book to come out. Hopefully this book will wake people up.

In the summer of 1976 at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Professor Dr. Waclav Soroka invited Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski to be the keynote speaker at the next meeting of the Annual Lectures on Poland. Cardinal Wyszynski was an old friend, and Soroka hoped to shed some light on the plight of the Polish people under Communist rule. However, the Cardinal could not make it, so he made a suggestion-invite the "other Polish Cardinal" The "other Polish cardinal" as he was known at the time, was Cardinal Karol Wojtyla. Providentially he was attending the International Eucharistic Congress in Philadelphia that summer and was willing to travel to a small rural city in central Wisconsin to give the academic lecture. Little did anyone know at the time that they would be welcoming a future Pope (John Paul II) as well as a living saint.

Any book about Saint Pope John Paul II is sure to inspire, but this is an unknown story that is especially touching in that it manifests the humility and goodness of the future Pope John Paul II. Set in rural Wisconsin, this is a must-read for anyone of Polish descent as well anyone looking for evidence that nothing changes lives like true holiness. Kosloski writes with a beautifully natural and accessible style that draws one into the story right from the outset. I highly recommend this book to anyone hoping to become a saint - it will both foster and further that aspiration admirably!

An excellent read By Franz S Klein I grew up Stevens Point, and I recall seeing pictures from Karol Cardinal Wojtyla's visit in local parish history books and hearing about it from people who had actually been part of the events. Philip has written a short, eminently readable account of a treasured local connection to one of the greatest figures in recent history. Although the Wisconsin visit may have been a small event in the life of a great man, it was a large event for the people of Central Wisconsin, especially those of Polish descent, and it became all the larger with the Polish cardinal's quick ascension to the papacy. I particularly enjoyed the anecdote Philip shares about the exchange between Wojtyla and Lee S. Dreyfus, then the chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Dreyfus complimented the Polish cardinal, telling him that he would be happy to see him become pope if ever a non-Italian were elected. Wojtyla responded by quipping that he would be pope as soon as Dreyfus became the next governor of Wisconsin. Lo and behold, that's exactly what happened! I congratulate Philip on a job well done and thoroughly recommend his book to readers from Wisconsin and beyond.

By Shaun McAfee First, I love Wisconsin.I know the route from Madison to Rheinlander pretty well, traversing the highway for cabin trips nearly every summer. Stoping for food at my favorite Culvers in Stevens Point, and onward north to the lake-region, Stevens Point has been nothing much more than a pass-through town on my way to some other destination. That's changed with the reading of Philip's new, and first book.I've kept up with Philip's great spiritual blog - the young man has promise. I had no idea he would write such an entertaining account of Wojtyla's 1976 trip to the UW-Stevens Point. Like I said, my opinion of this small rural town has matriculated to the point where I must find these landmarks and reimagine this great scene.Kosloski covers of the Cardinal's visit the story from beginning to end, detailing the events leading up to the speech, the historical formation of Polish-Catholicism and Polish-Catholic life in Wisconsin, and the legacy of the man who would become Pope John Paul II. There's a lot of great facts presented in in the book that made me smile, like the hype of the speech only to be disappointed by the miscalculation of Wojtyla's idea of who his audience would be. Philip's book is great and it's a must-have for anyone who wants to know more about the wonderful Polish Cardinal. Highly suggested for students of the history of American-Catholicism, as his part played, no-doubt, a defining role in the shaping of evangelism/formation of American Catholics.

In the fall of 1950, I was a college student at Boston University. The Korean War had just begun, and while I had a college deferment, I felt it was unjust that other young people were fighting in Korea while I was in the classroom. Thus, in January 1951, I joined the army paratroopers with the hope of doing my part as a member of an elite fighting force. During a regimental parachute training jump, I was severely injured and later reclassified as a logistical support person. I was sent to the Korean War as a member of the Eighth Army. In this memoir, I provide readers with insights into my life as a soldier from basic training and jump school to my experiences in the Korean War. For the first time, documents from the National Army Records Archives and the Us Army Transportation Museum are used in recounting the Korean War activities of my unit, the 513th Transportation Truck Company. These records are integrated with vignettes of my military life during the Korean War.
