Baseball Girl: A Novel, by Stephanie L Verni

From the Author Dear Reader,Thank you for considering reading "Baseball Girl." I can tell you only that it was a labor of love. Having spent 13 years working for the Baltimore Orioles, I decided that I wanted to write a fictional story grounded in love and loss that was only made possible by my experiences working in the front office of a professional baseball team. While the story is fictionalized, many of the situations and feelings that the main character experiences and shares are similar to those I experienced myself. Working in baseball was magical for me--I met all of my best friends during my time at the club, and I even met my spouse working in baseball. While Francesca certainly has to overcome the loss of her father, she also has other interpersonal relationships to navigate. It was fun to write, and I hope you enjoy the novel as much as I enjoyed crafting each of the characters, writing the introductory quotes to each chapter, and imagining what Bay City must look like (though many readers have already told me they know it's Baltimore)! Thanks for stopping by and considering the book,Stephanie

Ciarlo I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good book and especially all who love the great game of baseball. As an avid and life long baseball fan, this book hit it out of the park for me. I was drawn into the life of Francesca as the book began and found her to be a character with whom I related easily. The passion for baseball that Francesca shared with her father and all the stories that went with this passion were perfectly intertwined throughout the novel. Reading about this father-daughter relationship made me think of all the cherished ballpark memories I have with my own parents from my childhood and memories I hope my husband and I are creating for our sons. Baseball truly creates lasting bonds for so many of us.I felt like I was right there in the community relations department with Francesca and was captivated by her career and how she went about her job with such fervor. The baseball quotes at the beginning of each chapter set the tone so well for what was about to take place. This novel is now on my list of favorite books for a whole host of reasons and I certainly recommend it. I loved Stephanie Verni's first book, Beneath the Mimosa Tree, and loved Baseball Girl even more. Thanks for writing such a wonderful novel and for sparking so many fond memories from my own baseball days with you at Memorial Stadium. #BaseballGirl #GoBlackbirds

Italians are full of passion, life and love, and this book captures some of that spirit tying it in with the love of baseball. I don't read many romantic novels, but this one really brings home a great story and one that a lot of us can relate to.I loved this quote:"love was constantly evolving.... it was always in motion, always changing, altering, growing, dwindling, but ultimately, a successful love always allowed two people to come back to each other, despite the peaks and valleys."and this one too:"Whatever you do in life, do it for love. Life without love can be empty"

I definitely recommend this book to those who are baseball fans, but you don't necessarily have to be a baseball fan. It's a well-written story about Francesca Milli's love for her father, baseball and much more. Her job working for the Blackbirds allows her to remember and honor her father which I like. Stephanie Verni's novels are wonderful and I look forward to reading more from her! This book would make an excellent gift.
