I thoroughly enjoyed this story after reading it on the author's Deviant Art page and just had to have the physical copy. The art is phenomenal, and while the snark is on par with the latest avengers movie the humor is much better, and the story line is much more original than your standard comic fare. I'm not generally one for eldritch forces encroaching on our world, but in this case I'll make an exception! Its a very rich character driven piece, and packs a very surprising amount of depth in it's pages. I'm trying very hard not to spoil things in this review, I am so amped since I got my copy in the mail today.I cannot wait for the next run to start!

2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Death is only the Beginning By Matthew Ries The battle of good and evil is front and center in Stjepan Sejic’s “Death Vigil: Volume I”. While there are certainly white hats, well hair, and black hats there are some important grey figures intermingling among them with amazing art by writer-artist Sejic keeping the reader engaged through the entire book.The basics of the story is Death, aka Bernie, selects individuals who die valiantly to become Death Knights to defend the living from Necromancers who attempt to bring primordial beings to Earth. The lead character is Sam, a veteran of the Vigil, who explains the structure and way of life of the Vigil to the newcomer Clara whose induction into the group is hiding something from the primordial realm that pops up in important situations for her character throughout the book. On the other side, the Necromancers are “led” by numerous individuals however the prime mover throughout this book is Maria Benes bargains with ‘the King’ for the translation of a powerful Necromancer in exchange for her taking Bernie’s place. And added to the mix the necromancer characters Alistair and his daughter Mia who side with the Vigil though Alistair and Bernie do like one anotherAfter the initial introduction to the concept of the Vigil, Sejic introduces new things throughout the book interesting ways and foreshadows many things that the reader obviously only recognizes when it comes up against in important points of the story. Throughout the book, the Vigil aligned characters are fond of puns, bad puns at that but all of them acknowledge that the puns are bad which adds a little comic flare. A constant throughout the entire book is the excellent art of Sejic who’s long list of credits gives one the idea about how much his talent is wanted and acknowledged by the comic industry.Upon finishing “Death Vigil: Volume I” the reader will find like myself that they want more and the dangling story arcs continue and grow over time. But the only way for that to happen is for this book to sell good giving Sejic incentive to writing Volume II. Trust me, you’ll not be sorry about reading this book and will agree on wanting more.

Smith I follow artists, not studios or cannons or characters, and Stjepan is one of my absolute favourites, affecting my drawing psyche as much as Michael Turner did with Fathom years ago. His ability to create relatable characters fantastic. I read another reviewer relate to the snark as being on par with that of current superhero movies, and that is a fair statement, however the comedy does not seem out of turn for the characters personality. The conflicts are organic enough in cause and effect, and the foreshadowing of coming events seems well thought out. I look forward to fidgeting while the next volume gets compiled.

I will attempt not to post any spoilers, but with this author's writing that may be hard if not impossible!This author left us hanging in book 1 with a huge cliff hanger which left us waiting with baited breath for the next installment. Well let me say she did not disappoint me and hopefully you once you purchase book 1 and 2.You get to see the Black Rose come to accept her role in life as a strong willed, intelligent young lady as she is kidnapped with nothing but a few silver hair pieces. She will come alive as if a breathing living person as you read on.You will be able to taste, feel and get deeply into this author's writing as you read the story that takes you from earth as you know it to hell and back. You will be transported into this book as none other has done so. It is one kick ass book that will have you on the edge of your sleep and losing sleep as you read it.It is a part of the story but in its own right it is the lenght of a full novel. It took me 2 days to read it even as I was reading as fast as I could and staying up late and getting up early. I even slept with my kindle to save time to get back to the story! It is an absolutely GREAT read!

A.K. Michaels has dazzled us with yet another spectacular series and what a sparkler it is! Torment and Treachery is the second release in her brand new series, The Black Rose Chronicles and Ava has totally rocked my world - again! Please be forewarned, this release is part of an ongoing series and is NOT a standalone read. So, if you haven't read Book One, Deceit and Lies, please STOP here. Now we have that out of the way, let's talk some specifics. The book is exciting, unique, interesting and well crafted. It grabbed my attention right out of the gate and held my interest from the first page till the last. The dialogue is smart, well executed and flows effortlessly. The narrative is exceptionally well written in the third person with multiple points of view - five and counting. Most authors stick with one or two if they're feeling adventurous but three or more is a lot of work, especially if it's done well and Ava does it without missing a beat! I find that it not only adds to depth and complexity of the story but to a greater understanding of the characters as well. And speaking of the characters, they are quite simply magnificent. I would describe them as fascinating, captivating, intriguing, well developed and engaging. And did I say sexy? No? Well, they are sexy as sin. Heck, even the villain is hot - and I do mean that quite literally since he is a demon after all. But all joking aside, the characters literally explode from the pages, grab your attention, capture your heart and hold you prisoner from beginning to end. Michaels skillfully combines these elements into a superbly crafted paranormal romance filled to the brim with danger, drama, adventure, suspense, deceit, heartbreak, passion and romance. And there's also a small smattering of humor included as well for a little comic relief. So, what didn't I like about this book? Not a darn thing! I loved it!Book One: Deceit and LiesMichaels establishes the premise for the entire series in Book One. Our story begins with Rose Marie O'Connell, a wolf/witch hybrid, living in a future dystopian world that has been devastated and ravaged by a war between the species. Luxuries and prosperity no longer exist and supernatural beings roam freely without fear. Very few places have any sort of law enforcement and crime, chaos and destruction reign over most of the world where men can be anything from a Wolf to a Fallen Angel with every species in between - except witches. Witches have been hunted to near extinction and the only witch other than her now deceased mother Rose has ever met is Seth, her protector, mentor, savior and lover. Seth, a friend of her father, took her into his home when she was only eight and gave her shelter, guidance, safety and love for the last twenty years. But he has also given her another gift - he has trained her to defend herself and now she has become a legendary, hard-as-nails, deadly assassin known as "The Black Rose" who is so successful that she now can name her own price for a job. Rose works mostly for The Council, a group based in Washington in what used to be the White House consisting of members of almost every species who attempt to maintain some order. Unfortunately, with few resources there is little they can do other than the elimination of the occasional bad guy which is where Rose comes into play. Rose, however, is very selective when choosing her assignments. She will only accept a contract for someone that she has vetted herself and determined to be guilty of the crimes for which he has been accused. Once she accepts a job, there is no reprieve and she dispatches them to their death swiftly and without remorse. But Rose walks a very fine line of life and death. She is half witch which she must keep concealed at all times. If her secret were ever to be revealed, she would be in danger of being the one who is hunted - by the Witch Hunters, the same group who murdered her Mother and the reason she can have no contact with her father, Wolf-Shifter Brendan O'Connell. The second is the Demon Basilius who is Head of the Council. His only goals are power and prosperity for himself ensuring his position as leader of the world. Unfortunately, in order for Basilius to accomplish his objective, he must destroy the one man standing in his way, Cassius Allarde. And this is where Rose enters the life of these two powerful adversaries. Basilius contracts Rose to kill Cassius. What? But he's a good guy, isn't he? Nonetheless, he wants him dead but he can't afford to do it himself and certainly not under the purview of The Council. Basilius lies to Rose about Cassius' true intentions and persuades her to accept the job but Basilius had not anticipated Rose's determination to learn the truth and the unfortunate unfolding of certain events that allow Rose to not only meet her handsome target but get to know him as well - intimately. Huh? Oh yes! But when Rose is mortally wounded in an attack by a demon, Cassius saves her life and nurses her back to health and they both soon realize they have feelings for each other and it's so much more than simple lust. Cassius and Rose both begin to understand the reason for their attraction and how it will affect both their lives. But before they can publicly declare their love and make plans for their future, Rose is not only abducted by Basilius, she's actually snatched away while Cassius helplessly watches. Oh no! Oh yes! Oh my!The story continues in Book Two: Torment and TreacheryThe story continues and picks up immediately following Rose's abduction and her arrival in the demon realm. Basilius revels in his power and is determined to make Rose pay for her betrayal. The demon realm is full of the worst kind of demons imaginable, and where each hour that passes in the human realm is the equivalent to a week in the demon realm. Huh? Oh my! Cassius, the new King of the Vampires and Rose's fated mate, has never felt so helpless in his entire long life. As he stood helplessly, he watched Basilius steal his true love, Rose, and rip her away from him. Cassius along with Rose's wolf shifter father Brendan, her mentor and former lover Seth, Kuan the Chinese mystic who is apparently also a Chinese god, and Cassius' friends and fellow vampires, Valentine and Valeria have mounted a rescue mission to recover Rose from the power hungry Basilius. Rose knows in her heart that Cassius will move heaven and hell to save her but because of the time difference, it looks like Rose will need all her strength, skill and magic if she wants to survive and somehow find a way to escape the torture, torment and treachery Basilius has planned for her. If she can only hold out until the cavalry arrives, she just may stand a chance of escaping her fate in the bowels of hell. But will Cassius, Seth, Brendan, Valentine, Valeria and Kuan arrive in time to save her from the King of Hell??? We'll see!!! Now three men desire Rose but all for different reasons. Two men care deeply for Rose but only one can have her completely. While one desires her heart, love and acceptance, another desires her happiness, love and safety. Unfortunately, the third desires only her surrender, torture and death. But what fate awaits Rose and how will it affect the future of the world? Rose is faced with astonishing changes which spark the beginning of a mysterious forgotten prophecy and as Rose soon discovers, they not only affect her but all living and undead creatures. A must read series By sue ward After the cliffhanger at the end of book one I had high expectations for how the story would continue in book 2 and I wasn't disappointed.The story picks up from where book 1 finished and its an adrenaline rush from the off.Rose's life has quite literally gone to Hell. With the Demons Basillis and Razor both after her blood and determined to make her suffer their own particular forms of abuse, Rose is in a race against time if she's to survive and fulfil the prophesy.Can Brendan, Seth and Cassius find her in time ? With the help of a God maybe ! With an as yet unknown traitor in their midst, you can bet the drama, excitement and danger is far from over.This is a well thought out and well written story set in a dystopian world with an array of interesting and intriguing characters that makes for an exceptional read. I rarely re-read a book but this is one that I could again and again.This book doesn't end in a cliff hanger 'phew' not sure I could cope with another ending like book 1 but it will leave you waiting eagerly for the next instalment.

Just when you think you have the plot figured out, someone new pops up and adds a new twist to her life. Watching Ivy and Jem work through the challenges they face and learn to move forward in their lives, without forgetting where their roots lie, is always a pleasure. Makes me glad I came to the series late in the game, because now I can read the third book without waiting months!

About the Author The author retired in 1999 after a 30 year career with General Electric working as a technician, field engineer and manager installing control systems in steel mills. He lived in a number of different countries and traveled widely during his career and in retirement. He has many different interests, but has spent more time recently writing about his family’s history and preserving old photos. His first effort was a Wax family history book “Descendants of Peter Wax” which was distributed in 3-ring binders to historical societies and libraries. His second was a book of photos of his maternal grandparents and each of their descendants distributed to relatives on CD. “Son of Montana” is the first to be published.

It was like a trip back in time By Darlene Slusher I ordered the book and got it timely and read it thoroughly because our family was a neighbor to Don Wax's family. It is well done, and shows how hard it was to live on a ranch or farm during that time period.. It was like a trip back in time, and the sacrifices made by our families living off the land and helping each other to survive!! I would suggest that high schools in Montana who teach government or history use this book in their class room, because it is a wonderful experience that young people would benefit from not only as a history, but as a humanity of a group of people who settled the Bitterroot Valley in Montana.

It show how we worked for everything we earned and made us respect the land and other people. My Uncle Don and my Father, I have always looked up to them as role models. This is because of the way they lived.

Anorve Los libros están muy interesantes , pero quisiera que me aclararan una cosa , me parece que el libro tres sale que el líder de los Troles fue muerto por uno de los hombres de Douglas en Volis y después sale que ya está vivo otra ves. También a Kyle lo había atrapado en una red ese mismo líder y lo llevaba como un SÚPER. Trofeo y después sale que Kyle está libre , me podrían explicar eso por favor?

The main aim of this book is to teach D to readers who are new to computer programming. Although having experience in other programming languages is certainly helpful, this book starts from the basics.

D is a multi-paradigm system programming language that combines a wide range of powerful programming concepts from the lowest to the highest levels. It has C-like syntax and static typing. It pragmatically combines efficiency, control, and modeling power, with safety and programmer productivity in mind.

One of the better programming books I've read through By Scott Dean (The first thing to point out is that this book is available for free as pdf in a link from the dlang.org homepage (http://ddili.org/ders/d.en/index.html). The pdf and book appear to be identical. I dislike reading books/tutorials from a pdf since I'll copy and paste the example code and exercises, which isn't conducive to learning... Plus, having a good looking hardcopy is always nice.)The book is great. It may even be a good book for learning programming in general (especially C-like languages), if you don't have any coding experience. The entire book gives very concise statements and examples for each idea. Even the chapters themselves are short and to-the-point. The author doesn't try to be sarcastic or witty. It's a proper tutorial for idiomatic D.Though it's probably a reasonable reference book for D, if you already have a good handle on the language or have a lot of experience with C++, the book does build in a linear fashion. Since most of my previous experience is in python, skipping chapters made me feel lost... so read chapters in order. (The author even says this in the preface.)

A cool, restrained meditation on love, poetry and meaning By Lady Fancifull Although I haven't read any of Nicholson's novels before, I am aware of him as a writer of refinement in dealing with a certain kind of English emotional restraint , where `still waters run deep' . This writerly strength, not to mention this strength in writing the lives of writers, was clearly shown in his stage play, Shadowlands, previously a TV play, later a film, exploring the life of C.S.Lewis, and particularly, his relationship with Joy Davidman/Joy Gresham.I was therefore attracted to this book, which explores the life and work of another writer, the American poet Emily Dickinson, and also that of her brother, Austin Dickinson, and of Mabel Loomis Todd, who was the principal champion and driving force behind getting Dickinson's poems published after her death. Mabel, a young and vibrant woman and the reclusive middle aged Emily never met, though Emily communicated with Mabel through sending her poems. Mabel, a married woman, and Austin, a married man (though not to each other) had a relationship which began its flowering in the dining room of Emily Dickinson's house, the only place they could conceivably meet to consummate their affair. Austin was in his 50s at the time of his relationship with Mabel, who was in her 20s. Mabel was in a remarkably open marriage for 1880's Amherst, Massachusetts society - her husband, David, had relationships with other women, which Mabel knew about, and sanctioned, and David too, sanctioned and approved of Mabel's relationship with Austin. Indeed, the two became close friends, and eventually the Todds found land which they could build on, (they had been renting short leases before) and where Mabel could meet with her lover. She and David continued to have a physical relationship. Austin, meanwhile, was in an unhappy marriage with Sue, who had initially been great friends with the remarkable Mabel, until the close emotional, spiritual and intellectual friendship between Mabel and Austin became more than platonic. Sue disliked sex, and Austin and she had been husband and wife without any sexual connection for many years. Emily, meanwhile, wrote poetry of huge passion and spiritual content, which seethes with the possibility that the spiritual, soulful intensity of her writing about love and connection may have been sublimated sexuality - or, possibly that she had had some earlier romantic experience to draw on, in her poetry. The theme of watching, watchfulness and a kind of distance which in inherent in the idea of Mabel and Austin's initial use of Emily's house in which to carry out their tryst - with Emily, perhaps, as voyeur - is echoed by sections in the book where scenes from the screenplay are written from the point of view of Emily, as the eye of the camera, the watcher. And of course, the audience/the reader becomes an even more distanced eye, and thinks of the voyeuristic nature of fiction and film, perhaps"That's what we do with love. Create a story to overlay the passing events of our lives so that a pattern emerges. What was random develops meaning.Love as story-telling"The real letters between Austin and Mabel are full of philosophical questioning and discussion about the nature of love, its purpose, and the search for meaning. Alice herself is obsessed with these questions, and her two week stay in Amherst academia brings her into contact with a much older man, Nick Crocker, an academic, who is charismatic but also someone searching for meaning, and questioning the nature of love. So there are various prisms through which ideas can be examined."So what about love? THIS POOR EXCUSE FOR EBAY ADVICE IS USELESS. I HAVE BEEN AN EBAY SELLER FOR 14 YEARS. I WAS HOPING TO PICK UP SOME NEW IDEAS. DUMB ME!! ALL THE "AUTHOR" HAS DONE IS NAME SOME ITEMS LIKE HANDBAGS & THEN LIST A BUNCH OF BRAND NAMES. SAME FOR EVERY ONE OF THE 50 ITEMS. WHICH IN THEMSELVES ARE RIDICULOUS---LARGE APPLIANCES, GENERATORS, FURNITURE??? ONLY IF YOU WANT TO LIST THESE WITH LOCAL PICK-UP ONLY & THAT SEVERELY LIMITS YOUR CUSTOMER BASE. HE DOES GIVE ANY ADVICE WHATSOEVER AS TO WHERE TO FIND THESE MAGICAL ITEMS.ALSO MOTORCYCLES, DESIGNER CLOTHING, APPLE MACBOOKS, IPADS, ETC. REALLY??? JUST RUN DOWN TO YOUR LOCAL THRIFT STORE & FIND A FEW OF THESE!!! TAKES 5 MINUTES TO READ THIS USELESS GARBAGE. DON'T DO IT.

By Rob Natiuk The author says that it's hard to find genuine information on how to make real money on eBay. But he's going to change that for me with this book. He's going to tell me exactly what items to sell and how, and where to find them. Let's see if he does all of that. Here's just a small selection to give you an idea of how broad and intriguing this market can be. You can specialize in categories that you love and become a specialist in that area. Or you can become a successful marketer of the most profitable items. This list is a great place to start to explore the whole field.DESIGNER HANDBAGS. But how do you avoid imitations of brands?AUTHENTIC SPORTS JERSEYS. COWBOY BOOTS. HUNTING KNIVES. MOTORCYCLES. Doesn't cover the problems involved in marketing these. But from correspondence I've had with the author, I know he has been successful in all the categories he recommends. That reassures me that this is not just a list compiled from other sources but a list that comes from his own experience. That's neat and credible.BUT -- how do I secure these items and arrange shipping? Well, that's in another one of this author's books. This book doesn't have any practical information on the HOW'S; it's meant more as motivation to get you exploring the possibiities. After all, this author is smart in the area of marketing e-books also. He knows it's wiser to offer two or three short and inexpensive books in a certain area rather than one big book. That helps the shopping entrepreneur also.

King At the beginning of the book the author tells you he will "tell you exactly what to buy, HOW TO BUY IT, and inform you of the results you will get. Then he goes on to list 50 things that sell well on eBay (including RVs - I'm sure we all can run out and purchase an RV to sell!), the first of which is 'designer handbags'. He never does tell HOW TO BUY these. The subtitle doesn't necessarily lie - I'm sure these items 'always sell on eBay'. But getting your hands on these items is a different story. The cherry on top for me is his endorsement for selling elephant hide cowboy boots. Pass.
