Two neighboring West African countries, Liberia and Sierra Leone were caught up in nasty civil wars: Liberia in 1989 to 1996 and again in 1999 to 2003 while Sierra Leone from 1991 to 2002. Both civil wars caused displacements of over four million people. Warring factions attacked villages, towns and cities, causing people to lose their homes and their lives as dreams and families shattered forever. John Davies grew up in these two countries. Coming from a dysfunctional family and left to cope on his own at a very young age, his life was filled with turmoil. John was no stranger to hard work and difficulties. But when the two countries were caught up in civil wars, his resolve and faith was tested to the core in the midst of it. Coping with the oddness of a deeply dysfunctional family – and striving for survival from the slums of refugee camps to the heights of the political scenes in Freetown and Monrovia, to the plights and challenges faced by English speaking West African refugees in francophone Senegal, John treads on slippery slope tides in a bid to protecting and keeping his family safe. Did he fail, succeed or triumph? Strangely, the answer to the question is left with you (the reader) to determine. Join John Davies as he recounts his life from the conflicted lands of Liberia and Sierra Leone to the free states of the United States.

A Compelling Journey Impacted by War By Dee Long Each of us has but one life to live, but Dystunctional One reminds us of how interrelated our human experience is with every other member of this planet earth. John Davies' story is unique to his experience, but the reader will identify with so many of his struggles and challenges, all undertaken under the devastating umbrella of civil war. A comfortable bed in a warm home and the blessings of a civilized society will not likely be taken for granted as easily after reading Davies' compelling tale.

I bought the book to learn more. John is an inspiration and a reminder to everyone to count your blessings. My only complaint is that it is not well edited. There are problems with the english translation and it does not read smoothly in places. That said, if you are looking for a boost or encouragement, I strongly recommend reading this man's life story. It will takes you a far away from the bickering and pettiness so often found with our "first world" complaints.

PDF Ebook Invisible Target: Breaking the Cycle of Educator Sexual Abuse, by Andrea Clemens

Invisible Target is a true, detailed account of one girl’s experience of educator sexual abuse at the hands of her middle school teacher. It follows her journey, beginning with her tumultuous childhood, meeting the teacher, and the grooming process he created to lure her into a false sense of trust and ultimate betrayal. After years of abuse and manipulation, she finally found the courage to bravely break away from her abuser.

With excerpts from newspaper articles and an actual court impact statement, this book gives you a clear picture of how the epidemic of educator sexual abuse begins, progresses, and affects so many innocent lives.

Invisible Target is more than a memoir. With thought-provoking questions at the close of each chapter, this book serves as a strong educational tool for students, parents, teachers, and administrators by shedding light on the dynamics of educator sexual abuse so that school can be a safe haven for every child.

“I highly recommend that Invisible Target be read and discussed in every school community in the country.” —John M. Seryak, M.Ed.

“This book can help students identify predators, parents to support their children, and educators to prevent abuse.” —Charol Shakeshaft, Ph.D.

“Although the topic is obviously very disturbing and disheartening, Andrea’s story is one of hope.” —Robert J. Shoop, Ph.D.

With incredible insight from a peerless perspective, Invisible Target: Breaking the Cycle of Educator Sexual Abuse both entertains and educates. Andrea Clemens shares intimate details of her harrowing journey through a not-so-ideal childhood with humor, humility and without hesitation. It doesn't stop there. Not just a first hand account of an uncomfortable, heartbreaking and inappropriate relationship; Invisible Target: Breaking the Cycle of Educator Sexual Abuse also provides thought-provoking questions, encouraging the exploration of this unfortunately common phenomenon.Students, Teachers, Parents, Faculty... share this book. You never know who you might help.Help those without a voice find one.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Highly recommend this insightful, educational, and heart-breaking book By ragmom This book should be considered a must-read for any parent, teacher, administrator, or anyone who works with children. Not only is this the courageous story of an abused girl/woman, but it is also an enlightening glimpse into what goes on in the mind of someone being groomed, being abused, struggling to break free from abuse, and even post-abuse. The story-line does not simply begin and end with the abuse, but rather starts with who she was as a young girl, travels through who she thought she was during the abuse, and ends with who she is becoming because of her experiences. Using insightful questions to consider at the end of each chapter, the author takes the time to educate us from her painful experience, challenging different reader groups (students, parents, teachers, administrators, etc) to reflect on different questions. While every case of abuse has its uniqueness, there are some similarities between abusers, and the author helps us understand some of those red flags, so we can be aware and educated to help stop abuse from happening.

Although I found portions of the book tough to experience as the reader, Andrea’s delivery of the material helped soften the impact while still remaining true to the important details needed to paint the complete picture of her experiences. This book is more than just an account of one woman’s battle with educator sexual abuse; Invisible Target is a powerful resource that can help prevent sexual misconduct and abuse in schools. Andrea is a gifted writer that has created an amazing resource that should be read by anyone that wants to help keep children safe.

On the planet Ankor, Klubbe the turkle lives as a hermit. A marine mishap inspires him to be an inventor. His inventions and explorations change his life, his entire planet. Turkles are close cousins of turtles. Unlike them, they have yellow golden skin and back shells, walk on their hind legs, have the gift of language, and the ability to create their own culture. The life of Klubbe may read like a light-hearted science fiction story, but it actually happened to him. Princess Corka thinks his invention is sublime. Ubbtosh, the pyramid priest, promises to guide him to the core of the cosmos. In space, there are no sign posts, he finds, but there are other beings. And on Ankor, there are mysteries to be solved. Is the Great Glom more than a myth? And what about the Great Archy Eopta?

By Anela This book was provided to me by the author for review. With a tone like a cross between Tolkien’s chapter “Concerning Hobbits” and “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”, this insightful, yet lovably unique Science-Fiction novel was a joy to read. The Turkles of Ankor are a refreshingly optimistic people and a great departure from the usual muck and mire depicted in the political landscape of Sci-Fi books. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good space intrigue, but sometimes it’s nice to see a bit of the inspirational in the galactic setting as well. Now, one might be concerned that there’d be a lack of tension in a story based on such upbeat folk, but I found this one had a tantalizing carrot at the end of its creative stick: Curiosity, of the explorer variety to be precise. This was embodied by the main character, a thoughtful and ingenious turkle named Klubbe. Quirky and plain spoken, I enjoyed following his adventures.Fantastic world building as well. Everything from Klubbe’s country hometown (adorably located in an area called Snug in the Pillow) to the barge traveled waters surrounding the capital city, to the marine-like names of the many foods, teas and juices of the turkles, made Ankor feel like a real place just beyond my known galaxy.I must also call out that this was a perfect example of the use of the omniscient voice. As one of the more challenging forms of writing, I applaud the author on his skill and his consistency when deploying it here. It never interrupted or invaded the storytelling, rather it added greatly to its humorous tone. Very well done.A couple of lovely lessons came to my attention in this one, interwoven with some dry humor and good will. The First: Finding your purpose and striving to contribute to the world through that talent. This was summed up beautifully in this quote from the book: “We have to dig deep, to find our roots, our skills, our bulb that will produce our stem, leaf and flower.”The Second: A reminder not to forget to enjoy the the life you’ve made. It shouldn’t always be about reaching for the next amazing thing but appreciating that which has been accomplished as well.Perfect for anyone with a touch of the adventurer and the philosopher in their veins. A great story told in straight forward language without the use of a lot of fussy words. And no need to worry about freaky dreams with this one if you like to read before bed, or indigestion if you tend to take your afternoon tea with a side of literature. This wonderful story is like a Science-Fiction cozy, with a healthy dollop of exploration on top.Amid the Imaginary: https://amidtheimaginary.wordpress.com/

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Utopia By T K Flor The planet Ankor is not unlike Earth. It has a breathable atmosphere, an ocean and seas teaming with fish and other creatures, and at least one continent, called Crustacea. The climate is mostly mild, but like on Earth, it varies from snowy fields to exotic jungles. The wildlife is rich and includes species unique to the planet and also those found on Earth. What makes Ankor very different from our planet is its “guardian race”, the Turkles. They are close cousins of turtles, but they “walk on their hind legs, and have the gift of language, and the ability to create their own culture.” And that culture is fascinating. It has familiar elements, such as a royal family, country folk working in fields, villagers, and the dwellers of the capital city with various institutions. There are Turkle innkeepers, artists, inventors, and even university professors, but one also meets hermits and priests. On its face, it's a familiar society, and one can sympathize with Turkles' fondness of food and understand their family life. Nevertheless, Turkles are very different from us. They are seemingly devoid of greed, envy, and malice. It's hard to imagine such a society, let alone build an interesting and compelling world without villains, disasters and conflicts. Philip Dodd has succeeded. Klubbe the Turkle and the Golden Star Coracle, follows Klubbe's journey from the time he was a young hermit, to when he became an inventor, to his opening of the space era for Turkles. Klubbe's adventures are very different from our typical hero's journey, but they do have their share of twists and turns. Characters like King Zilk and Queen Zubria, and Kribb the aspiring journalist for the Turkle Times, add humor to the story. The reaction of Turkle society to changes brought by Klubbe's inventions make the story richer and more interesting. While I mostly liked the poetic tone of the storytelling, some sentences felt convoluted and jarred my reading. For example: “Then, like his sister, he attended to what the young man was saying, who was speaking out from the middle of the television screen, while sat in the bow of a grey motor boat, which bobbed up and down on fairly rough waves, with its engine turned off.” Nevertheless, Ankor and its inhabitants is a planet I've enjoyed to discover. Recommended for everyone who'd like to meet a genuinely nice race in our galaxy.I received a free copy of the book in exchange for a non-reciprocal review.

As the first Russian bombs drop on Oulu, Finland in early 1940 during the Winter War, Aarne Kovala is a young boy with a great love of the sea. At fifteen, Aarne takes fate into his own hands and joins the Finnish merchant marines. He spends his days delivering war materials between Finland, Poland, and Germany.

But when Finland’s ties with Germany are severed after the signing of the Moscow Armistice in 1944, Aarne and his fellow sailors are arrested by the Nazis and sent by cattle car to the infamous Stutthof concentration camp deep in the Polish forest. And thus begins Aarne's horrific struggle to survive amid dreadful living conditions, scarce food, and grueling work details. In the only letter he is allowed to send home, he prays, “I hope the day soon dawns when we again may meet.” But after months of dark nights and even darker days, how long can his hope survive?

Based on actual events, The Day Soon Dawns: A Finnish Sailor's True Story of Surviving Stutthof is a tale of survival, hope, and ultimately the triumph of the human spirit.

Review "Kovala's writing is laconic yet evocative. She offers readers a sensorial exploration of the camp, regardless of how uncomfortable it may be. The suffering is palpable, yet readers will rejoice in each of the minor victories. In this personal labour of love, the care Kovala takes in recounting her father's experiences is evident on every page.A valuable, unique addition to the canon of survivor stories." --Kirkus Reviews

If a fiction writer were to write about all of the twists of fate and close calls in Aarne's story of survival, readers would dismiss it as too hard to believe. In fiction, the mind-numbing record of deaths would be too much, the suffering too gruesome, the cruelty simply too hard to comprehend. But this is a true story of one man's passage through a hellish experience and we must accept it as part of humankind's shared history, as difficult as that may be.In researching her father's story, Liisa Kovala traveled to Stutthof and the other European settings of his ordeal, as well as the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C.. She scoured through books on the subject and interviewed other camp survivors as well as her father. So the history is authentic. And the straightforward prose never sensationalizes, never gets in the way of the facts. It's a story worth telling and worth reading. A respectful hats off to Aarne Kovala for his endurance, and to Liisa for her determination to tell about it.

Hi, I’m Muriel, misbegotten daughter of Satan, and once again, my life is in turmoil. The cowled one who tortured me left a curse on my mind, one that makes me afraid. Completely unacceptable, but in order to remove it, I have to do something even worse—betray my beloved by bringing another man into our bed. As if having to participate in a threesome isn’t traumatizing enough, Hell has frozen over, and as much as I think Hades looks pretty in a blanket of white, the repercussions are severe. It’s a good thing this princess of Hell has two lovers determined to charge my magic in pleasurable ways. I'll admit it's not easy having nympho magic, but I’m prepared to suck it up—and swallow—for the sake of saving the world. Warning: The following is a very adult urban fantasy containing sexual scenes, violence and twisted situations that some people might find offensive. Reader discretion is advised.

You'll find out what the meaning of Hell's frozen over. I enjoyed reading this book until I got to the end and then.. NO! She didn't! I was left HANGING!... I started screaming EVE! WHERE IS THE NEXT BOOK!!!! UGH! *Sobbing uncontrollably* I don't think I can wait to find out what is going to happen to Muriel. Anyhow, if you haven't read the first book Lucifer's Daughter, don't read this one until you do, take my word for it been there and done that. Now, let's get to the hot stuff and boy, does this book have some hot wicked stuff *fans self*. Muriel gets an addition to her already hot guy to help her in time of need, so expect some M/F/M (no anal), some spanking or ordering around LOL. Then of course, you get a fun filled adventure with her and her dad the devil, then at the end the huge surprise *still sobbing!*. If you read and liked Lucifer's daughter please don't miss this one. This is a must try series if you're an erotic paranormal romance reader!!Tease"Hell's frozen over!"That caught my attention. Sitting up in the bed, I only barely remembered to grab thesheet and hold it over my naked bosom. "What did you say?" I had to have misheard."Hell has frozen over," said my father slowly through gritted teeth. "As in covered in a blanket of white. No heat. No fire. Frozen solid like a popsicle."Now my dad's outfit made sense. I absorbed this surprising news and then... Ilaughed. I roared. I giggled insanely."Muriel!" shouted my father. "I fail to see the humor."This book receives both top bit and scorcher award.

By mlsimmons Review originally posted at RabidReads.com.Muriel is now out as the daughter of Lucifer. People are trying to assassinate her. Auric, a fallen angel and her lover, is getting even more protective of her. They aren’t even seeing that much of dear ‘ol Dad because he has his hands full dealing with tracking down these factions down in Hell. There is also the ramifications of the torture that Muriel endured in the first book. It is giving her horrible nightmares and making it difficult to fight. When Muriel finds out that there is a curse on her that is causing her fear to be worse than it should be, she balks at the solution. See, Muriel gets her power from sex. She needs much more power than Auric can give her to break this spell. Muriel really wants to be faithful to Auric. It takes a lot of coercion for Auric to convince Muriel to bring in his best friend and cat shifter, David.Oh, on top of this issue, Hell freezes over. It is quite a funny scene when Lucifer shows up at Muriel’s apartment in a red parka, to which she really makes fun of him. Here’s the problem with Hell freezing over; everyone who made a promise about “When Hell freezes over” are now going to have to fulfill that promise. You would think this is something that Lucifer would want, with the chaos and all, but the amount of paperwork would cut into his golf game, and we can’t have that.I really enjoyed this addition to the story. I loved how Eve brought David into the relationship. It wasn’t just add another man and go have sex. There were a lot of thoughts and emotions from all three of the players. This story is told from Muriel’s POV, so we only get it from her side, but you can see how she responds to the two male’s reactions to the situation. This was another great installment in this series. I’ll be reading Hell’s Revenge very soon, though not too soon. I’m trying to spread the books out a bit because I don’t want too big of gap between the last book I have and the new release, which doesn’t come out until early February.“Keeping you safe isn’t treating you like a child. I’d say it shows foresight and care on his part.”“It’s annoying.”“Suck it up, princess.”Had David really said that to me? Judging by the smirk on his lips and twinkle in his eyes, yes. Jerk.Only one thing to do. I stuck my tongue out him. Treat me like a child and I’d act like one. He might have one the first round, but I wasn’t done yet. I’d nag him again later. Eventually I’d get my way. Just ask my dad. I rocked at getting what I wanted.**Book was provided to me by the author. This review is my opinion and was not requested or provoked in anyway by the author.

This book made it into my favorite's folder - always up for a good Manage reading :)So much has happened in Hell, and Muriel's life is turning in all sorts of crazy directions.First of all - we start off hot and heavy with Muriel and our favorite Fallen Angel Auric -See Muriel has been having really horrible dreams since that last night a month ago with the hooded evil thing. Night after night after night she wakes up screaming and in pain, and only Auric's familiar hands help coax her back into reality - brought on by a hot and sweaty morning nookie :) After that, it's easy for Muriel to pretend it's over with and everything will be ok nowThat is until the Demon's start attacking her again. For a month, everything was quiet but on all of the nights for her to walk home from work by herself, she gets attacked - but more than a few demons. She uses up her magic to kills them all, and falls down drained when she sees a hooded figure coming towards her. When she wakes up, Auric is furious that the attacks are starting up again, he's stressed out about Muriel's nightmares and flinching everything she see's someone in a hood or hears the word Master, and he doesn't know what to do - so he goes to hell and talks to Lucifer - together they gang up on Muriel and force her to see reasoning about going to see Lucifer's Manages -The Manages find a geas in her - which is a spell or a curse that compels a person to act a certain way or experience things. So one of the Manages tell her that the only way to get rid of the geas is to overpower it with her magic - and she needs a LOT of magic at one time - and just one Consort (i.e. Auric) wouldn't be enough - since her magic is based on her orgasms she needed helping getting more than a few at the same time..Now it's Muriel's turn to get Furious! how could anyone even THINK she should be with another man - let alone how could Auric push her towards it? Didn't he love her??Being the Princess of Hell, she really had her priorities messed up. Here she should have been rejoicing the orgies, but she was terrified of losing Auric. So her final answer was "no"Waking up to Muriel's screaming nightmare again has Auric begging her to reconsider taking David as a second - David is Auric's best friend, and not to mention he cares for Muriel, so it only made sense to have him there with them. But Muriel was still stubborn and refused to share herself with someone other than Auric.Auric needs to go out of town and leaves David with Muriel. Of course Muriel is upset about no one thinking she could take care of herself. She doesn't understand that Auric is acting out of love for her instead of possessiveness. But when David and Muriel head home from the Bar, they get attacked again. And again Muriel is left drained of her magic. and with Auric out of town... what should Muriel do??David and her sister Bambi have a really good heart to heart talk with Muriel and help her see things a little differently. So she agrees to the Manage in order to get rid of the Geas that is causing her to fear everything. When Lucifer showed up in her bedroom announcing it was snowing in hell - the term "when hell freezes over" became literal. and everyone who promised they'd do something "when hell freezes over" was in BIG TROUBLE ....Oh wow this book is awesome!!!! I loved it! So many feelings and passion - and of course Lucifer is as funny as ever in this one :) Lol I think I love his character the best in the book - well of close to Muriel - I love how she's her own personal cheerleader when she talks out everything in her own mind. The book leaves off in a really intense part - well the Epilogue does anyways - I'm really anxious for the next book though. This is one seris I hope Eve Langlais can expand for a few more books :) I don't think I'll get tired of this life :) Even my husband thought the fact of reading about Lucifer's Daughter was a great idea for a story :)

¨ Janeth.

Imagine a world where pregnant women are always upbeat and glowing, newborns sleep on cue, toddlers love to have their teeth brushed, and teenagers gaze adoringly at their parents. Impossible, you say? Not according to advertisers who flood the web with stock photos of perfect parents and children. They’d have you believe that parenting is a piece of cake, and every significant moment of family life takes place on a spotless white couch. So when Sara Given, a real mother of a real toddler, saw a picture of a radiant new mother in a cute little sundress breastfeeding her newborn in the middle of a golf course, she finally had enough. She launched a Tumblr, which is now visited by tens of thousands of new parents looking for a daily pick-me-up. Because what better way is there to deal with the stress and strain of being a new parent than laughter? The perfect gift of cheer and solidarity, Parenting Is Easy exploits the disconnect between these preposterous photos and what happens in real life, and makes every reader laugh out loud—and feel better, too, because we’re in on the joke.

By Life as Leels We have all seen the ads, the photo shopped pictures, the perfectly made up face and hair seconds after the birth of their child. We have all seen it and though that was real life (and were sorely disappointment) or scoff at what a joke it is.I mean, let’s be real.

Good Reading By LAS Reviewer Some parents keep secrets from their adult children, but most of those secrets aren’t quite as big as the ones that Nessa’s father has been keeping from her.The beginning caught my attention immediately. I can’t remember the last time I read a fantasy tale that involved the main character visiting a sick, elderly parent in the hospital, so I was keen to see how the author would weave everything together. As nicely written as these scenes were, they ended up setting the stage for even better ones later on in the plot. I only grew more excited about Nessa and her father’s unusual property over time, and it all began with the very first paragraph. There was one part of Nessa’s backstory that I would have liked to see more attention paid to. The narrator described it in a way that didn’t completely mesh with what I’d already learned about her and her father’s personalities. It was a small discrepancy, and I still enjoyed this book quite a bit. Had it been better explained, though, I would have chosen a much higher rating for it as I was really impressed with everything else in it.The plot twists were incredibly well done. While I was able to pick up on many of them ahead of time, this didn’t make me relish them any less because of how carefully the author embedded the clues about what was happening into this story. They were so subtle that I could have easily overlooked them, yet once I noticed them they made perfect sense.Fey should be read by anyone who is in the mood for something that is full of surprises.originally posted at long and short reviews

A Peek Into The Darker Side Of The Fey By Jennifer DeCuir I have to say, the timing of this book couldn't be better - though I wish I'd waited a few days and sat up late on Halloween night while I got my creepy fix. :)The bulk of my fey knowledge stems from the Cicely Mary Barker flower fairies and the few YA books I've managed to get my hands on. So reading this story where the whimsical, fluttery, feel-good fairies that I am used to are replaced by a darker presence that is sneaky and cruel was fascinating. I loved learning about a different facet to this mythological being. And the way Feldman wove in the children's fairy tale that Nessa learned from her father - bit by bit - until it all comes out in the end. What a clever way to engage the reader while feeding them info in intriguing, manageable bites! As someone else previously mentioned, this story does take a bit to get into - but hang in there, it's totally worth it! The last 45 minutes flew by. And the last sentence of the book - perfect. This was a wonderful introduction to the Donnellys VS the fey and I am very interested to see what future books have in store for Nessa and her father.*** I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ***

In all that time, she has never once mentioned her family - claiming only that she has been on her own for a long time. The truth is that Nessa Donnelly does have family - her father, Hugh and brother Orin - but she hasn't seen either of them for many, many years. Although she doesn't understand what caused their initial estrangement, she can't completely quell the sneaking suspicion that it is her choice of career - a sculptress in a family of stonemasons - that has made her something of a disappointment to her father. While it seems that her career doesn't exactly please her father, Nessa would say that she absolutely loves sculpting and honestly can't see herself doing anything else. She may not be content with the current state of their relationship, but she has somehow managed to come to terms with the way things are between herself and her family. Nessa never actually expected to see her eccentric father ever again, so it comes as something of a surprise to her to receive a phone call from the hospital in her hometown. According to his doctors, Hugh Donnelly lies in a persistently comatose state for which they have no explanation.Although he is comatose, his vital signs seem to be deteriorating; so his doctors are hoping that Nessa can shed some light on her father's inexplicable condition. Horrified to hear that her father's condition is so dire, Nessa rushes back home to be with him. Since she had always believed that the Donnelly family came from hardier stock, she is beyond stunned to discover her father is actually perilously close to death. As much as she would like to help them, Nessa isn't exactly sure how much information she can provide to her father's doctors - after all, her brother Orin is much closer to their father than she is - so he would have a better understanding of their father's medical issues. However, Nessa assures his doctors that she will do her best to help them discover what is wrong with her father. The search requires that she move back in to her childhood home for a while, and she is astonished when she sees the dilapidated condition of her father's house. As Nessa begins her research, long-buried family secrets emerge, and she slowly begins to realize that those secrets were kept hidden from her for a specific reason; a reason that she can't fully comprehend. She also realizes that there is something in the woods behind her father's house; something that he never told her about. Although she doesn't know how she knows it, Nessa understands that there is actually something in the woods that defies any sort of logical explanation. She has the vaguely unsettled feeling that whatever resides in the forest has been there since she was a child. And, in what is perhaps the most disturbing realization of all, Nessa slowly comes to believe that she is not quite as alone in her father's house as she thought she was...It probably won't come as much of a surprise to my readers, but I really do enjoy reading stories based on Irish folklore. In my opinion, the plot of this story was intriguing and I was curious to see how it would develop. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and found that the story was very well-developed and easily paced for its length - definitely an A! Actually, I'd be very interested in finding out if Ms. Feldman will write a sequel to this story.Full Disclosure: 'Fey' by C. S. Feldman read and reviewed by Mareena McGirr, an avid reader and book reviewer from Albany, New York. Many thanks to the author as I received a copy of this book for free from her.

By Believer "Entendre" (The Man Who Loved Too Much #2 ) follows Billy Green's humorous, painful and tragic search for a meaningful life and fulfilling love. The story begins with his fiancée Natalie's graduation and move to Newburgh, New York where she's living with her overbearing friend Pam while Billy who suddenly finds himself between roommates at Cornell agrees to share his flat with Julianne. With a guilty conscience he starts a sexual relationship with the beautiful Julianne and finds that he has enough love for both women in his life. His emotional confusion decreases when Billy follows Natalie to Newburgh after graduation working at Habitat for Humanity and marrying the girl of his dreams. Only as time passes does his suspicions about Natalie's out-of-town excursions and close friendship with Pam grow, although their blissful marriage is still charged with sexual excitement. When he returns home one evening having forgotten a copy of his speech for a charity dinner his world turns upside down and his heart is shattered. Struggling with his pain, sorrow and emptiness Billy decides to take a chance, to find new meaning in his life and search for love again. With laughter and tears John Rachel juxtaposes Billy Green's turbulent love life against a setting filled with major historical events in a chaotic world. Cleverly in the Prologue with a college assignment that revolves around personal advice columns and social interaction Billy's idealism and suspicions are revealed in his submission that exposes Pam as the purchaser of his engagement ring for Natalie. With a fluid writing style and natural dialogue he brings realism to a parody on life that has confusion and heartbreak swirling around Billy as he faces agonizing decisions that have severe consequences. His sexual romp with Julianne splits his heart between the two women, and he wonders if he's actually in love with Natalie while she gives him carte blanche in a cryptic message to "love the one you're with". Yet he blunders into marriage still loving Natalie although suspicious and anxious about her relationship with Pam. In a roller-coaster ride with twists and turns that eventually find Billy wallowing in his suffering he begins to wonder if love is nothing more than an allusion.Enriching the drama are characters who are passionate, vibrant and complex like Billy who's very trusting, enthusiastic and congenial. Naive and vulnerable, he wallows in his grief and heartbreak allowing Natalie to take advantage of him as he searches for renewed purpose in his life. Haunted by guilt at neglecting his mother over the years, he doesn't turn to her for support even though she has to be strong-minded living with a Hell's Angel want-a-be and recovering from cancer. Instead he flounders, seeking answers and solace in alcohol, drugs and meaningless sex. Plagued by an abusive childhood Natalie Diamond is the brazen, faithless, domineering wife who relies on her blunt, confident and obsessive friend Pam as an anchor in times of need. Ironically none of the characters really know what love is, equating it to sexual gratification."Entendre" (The Man Who Loved Too Much #2 ) is fascinating and stirring as Billy bumbles through life hoping that real love exists and that it's still out there somewhere. The reader can't help but root for him, hoping in the third book he'll find purpose and love again.

The subtitle Entendre underscores this work; unsubtle with a single meaning. But it is damn clever, close to the bone stream of consciousness writing.Chockablock with insights into pop-culture and political observations — the work presents a tsunami of depraved, reflective mental torture expressed poetically coursing through the mind of Billy Green. The author’s candidly, beautifully executed mental reflections reminded me of Marcel Proust’s detailed mental pondering in his classic work “Swans Way.”Outwardly Billy Green spews out a plethora of nonstop wise-ass, zingers, zappers and one line responses in conversations with friends and enemies alike. Is Billy is expecting too much from his life — a hollow adult — all shiny lacquer gloss — expecting others to fulfill his vacuous soul — and damn lucky in his life so far. Which head is the poor Billy thinking with? His big head or the one located at the tip of his penis? Reading this work I felt compelled to give Billy Green a swift kick in his ass.Maybe this book could be titled: “The Man Who Loves To Think Too Much.”Then again, reading this work reminded me of the role of parents in raising their children. For many contemporary parents, family values and moral standards are missing. The parents behave like their kids, smoking pot, shooting up drugs, boozing, and indulging in casual sex. They are role models, so it’s no surprise that their children follow their lead with impunity. The richest nation on earth is morally bankrupt. On a massively larger scale; examine the current morality of the American totalitarianism government’s subterfuge; trickery, intrigue, deviousness, deceit, deception, dishonesty, cheating, duplicity, guile, cunning, craftiness, chicanery, pretense, fraud, fraudulence, corruption, double dealing, outright lies, spying, and torture. No wonder the citizens of this powerful nation have gone to pot.Like loving parents, good governments exhibit the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behavior. The values and principles of conduct: virtue, goodness, good behavior, righteousness, rectitude, uprightness; morals, principles, honesty, integrity, propriety, honor, justice, decency; ethics, standards/principles of behavior, mores, standards. The current American government has set the standards for their citizens (children) to follow. That’s the overshadowing message I received reading this fascinating and thought provoking book. This is an important read, for sane people in a world that’s rapidly going berserk.Certainly I’ll be reading more about confused, drugged and drunk Billy Green on a runaway fright train heading into the third and final book in “The Man Who Loved Too Much” Trilogy — chugga choo chugga choo…

All I can say is this was some read. I must say I would suggest you read this author's first novel 'The Man Who Loved Too Much [Archipelago #1]' before reading this novel which continues on from book one. I found in 'Book 2: Entrendre' was quite a continuous journey of life as it was for Billy Green. I liked how this author was able to bring it all out with this person being so innocence and naive truly giving us a quite a read of just what all Billy Green had to through. Will Billy come out of all that is presented to him and still be the 'good' Billy Green as his mom sees him as? Will Billy really find the true meaning of just what 'Love Is' as he goes on with his life that seems not to be going the way he would like. But one thing for sure is that Billy was loved by his sweet Mom. Sorry I had to slip that in and at a point in the read he needed some love. I loved how this author was able to bring that relationship out so well to the readers. I will say the reader will be presented with some real interesting characters in this read ...some continues from the 'book one' and then 'book two' which there were some that were likable ones however, there were some not so likable ...and I can name three or four right off the bat.... as you continue to read from the novel. From the story we get quite a interesting well written story that will keep your attention in this read. I don't want to spoil it other than say you must pick up this novel to see what else will go on in Billy Green life as he seeks to find out or should I say will he truly find out what real true love is with the and main question being will he ever get what he really wants in life? It was quite interesting how this author deals with and brings what all is going in the life of Billy Green as he will leave one area and go to another. What is that all about? Will Billy find what he is looking for from this major move? Again, pick up this novel where all of these questions and much more will be answered. So, if you are looking for a 'challenging, humorous, tragic and very unpredictable' story then you have come to the right place for "The Man Who Loved Too Much Book 2: Entendre" will be a good read that I would definitely recommend to you. I will be looking for the next book 3 to get the end of it all of this story about Billy Green.
