Nikolai: I have been a contract killer since I was a boy. For years I savored the fear caused by my name, the trembling at the sight of my tattoos. If you saw my eyes, it was the last vision you'd have. With her, I am the mark and I am ready to lie down and let her capture me. Opening my small, scarred heart to her brings out my enemies. I will carry out one last hit, but if they hurt her, I will bring the world down around their ears. Daisy: I've been sheltered from the outside world all my life. Home-schooled and farm-raised, I'm so naive that my best friend calls me Pollyanna. I like to believe the best about people. Nikolai is part of this new life, and he's terrifying to me. Not because his eyes are cold or my friend warns me away from him, but because he's the only man who has ever seen the real me beneath the awkwardness. With him, my heart is at risk . . . and also, my life. Contains mature themes.

Nikolai lived on the streets as a child, taken in by a violent gang and trained to kill. Daisy whose mother was murdered has been living a life controlled by her father. That is till she escapes.Daisy manages to find a room in a run down apartment building, but the freedom from her former life outweighs her less than salubrious surroundings. What Daisy doesn't know is that she has caught the eye of the man living in the building oposite. Nikolai is drawn to Daisy and watches her whenever possible. He manages to engineer a meeting with her, and things move forward between them from there.A fascinating and compellingly written romance that is quite different from my normal romance books. Nikolai is a cold blooded killer. He kills for money, and unlike tattooed heroes in other books his have a meaning to those who know what to look for. They tell his story. Daisy has zero experience of men, at 21 she's never even been kissed. Nikolai struggles with what Daisy's reaction will be to what he does. But it's not long before it intrudes and puts them both in danger. There are some scenes other readers might find are not for them, mainly violence. But this is an engrossing story with well drawn characters.

Love "if you do not want me to break your wrist with one squeeze of my hand, you will do two things immediately, First you will remove your hand from my woman's purse. Second, you will remove your hand from my shirt. It's attached to the body that belongs to the owner of the purse." *sigh*WOW, WOW, WOW I love this book, 5 stars is nowhere near enough stars for this book. If you times them by 100 it still wouldn't be enough. it blew me away and made me want to weep when I finished it. yes it really was that good. It's very obvious that Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick are an amazing writing team who can pump out insanely amazing books. I can't wait for book two. They are going on my stalk list so I can get book two the second it is released.Nick(or Nikolai) is a hit man and while tracking his next hit he finds Daisy, she lives in the building next to him and he finds himself watching her more and more, till one day he see's a man touching her laundry. While stopping him Nick comes face to face with Daisy. Daisy had a loving family till her mother was killed, then her life turned upside down her father became scared of everything and soon their home became her prison. With no other choice Daisy leaves and starts a new life never thinking that she would find anyone like Nick. When they meet neither can deny the attraction and with Daisy's clothes "accidentally" ruined by Nicolai, Nick convinces her to go shopping with him. And so starts Nick and Daisy's relationship soon Nick and Daisy are falling in love and discovering all life has to offer. But Nick hasn't given up his profession so he finds himself keeping more and more from Daisy. With his mentors death he soon finds himself the target and it will be a race against time to not only kill those guilty but keeping Daisy safe.Where to start with all the things I loved about this book, I guess it would be easier to tell you what I didn't like.....um nothing. But the very best, wonderful awesome thing about this book would be........ Nick. He may be the most possessive, crazy, stalker, in lover hero I have ever read about ever in my whole entire life. No joke he was insane, I love him and wish that I could take him home. Daisy WAS IT for him no one else would do and all he wanted to do was make her happy and safe she deserved nothing but the very best in his eyes. Nick wasn't even ok with men being by her or looking at her, and when he thought he may loose her his plan was to wreak pain and death in his wake did I mention I loved Nick (seriously there was not a thing that I didn't love about him). Daisy was a great heroine she was strong and determined to find happiness. The flow of the story was perfect, I never felt like the story was dragged out or that useless filler was added. I was riveted to this book and never wanted to put it down. This amazing writing duo work brilliantly together and did an incredible job writing not only Daisy's point of view but Nikolai, I believed Nick's point of view completely it felt like he was real and that he was really telling his story, it was stunning. I never wanted this book to end. We get a great introduction into the characters of book two, as I was reading I hoped that they would get their own book and was so happy when I saw that they would be next. I hope this series continues for a long time, and that the series just gets better(though I'm not even sure if that's humanly possible. This is a must read.

Simply because the deeds and horrors were too extreme yet the book felt naive. What I mean by this is that both Daisy and Nick were products of extreme environments in their own way. As a story this might have made sense, for them to meet and fall in love if the survival instinct they both had was made the focus of this story. Instead of showing these two people as fighters who overcame the odds and found each other, the story emphasized a sort of innocence bred from naive acceptance of each other. A desperation that no one else would want them so they turned to one another. It was very dark book with killers who looked their victims in the face and shot them dead, who dissolved a human being for the assignment of killing, yet somehow saved innocents by killing the monsters of society. That vague sense of justice was the only meagre redemption in this book. Viewed from a law-abiding perspective, all of them were ultimately wrong and the authors failed to convince me that what they saw in one another though the climax of this story was enough to sustain the growth of a loving relationship. In my opinion these characters should have been more mature, having overcome their innocence by virtue of their hard-knock life, and then I would have believed in the Last Hit and the overwhelming emotion that they developed for each other. Daisy could still have been a sheltered woman that Nicolas put his life on the line for, that he was crazy in love with, that he would protect forever, and that he was humbled by her returning his love. The violence that was his reality would then be a sign of strength as what happens when dark forces clash, not merely something that was to be swept under the rug because it was just one more messy detail. The sex and the passion he showed her would not have been as mis-matched and mis-placed as it felt here. As it was, this book appeared ill-conceived and underdeveloped as an assassin suspense book and definitely did not work for me an enduring love story.
