A wonderful story of youth By Modesty The War of the Buttons is generally considered a book for children but the truth is that it is also a book for adults. Anyone who likes to remember what it was like to be young, free and get excited over the samllest thing should read this. The story is an allegory of war and makes very obvious how ridiculous human beings can be and how unnecessary wars are.Beautifully written with incredible expressive slang worthy of every teenager.

Finally bought it in the children section of a french bookstore; Pergaud is a terrific writer and his charming french spices up the story-telling. I felt that the translations (both Romanian and English) lost a little of the rustic feeling.I see that this print uses "francais facile", which I suppose means removing the flavorful patois and may be OK if it's for small children. However, if it's for you and you can, get the un-abridged version, you'll enjoy it so much more.

I will warn you though….this book ends with a harsh CLIFFHANGER!!!! So if you don't like cliffhangers, you are going to want to wait to read this book. Book 2 doesn't come out until Winter of 2014.I am a huge fan of Sydney's Danvers Series, so I was so excited to see she was branching out from those books and creating a whole new cast of characters. I went into this book knowing it was a trilogy and presumed that it would end with a cliffhanger, but still decided I needed to read it now!!! Normally I would've taken a 1/2 star off for the cliffhanger, but I can't fault the author for that since I had a feeling it was one and still read the book without waiting. I am so glad I read it NOW!!! This book was so good!!! It was totally different from her other books, but in a good way. This book does give you the 50 Shades of Grey and Bared to You feel, but was totally original in the storyline. Really the only similarities is that Lucian was a very wealthy man and Lia is a younger college student with a broken past. This story was written beautifully. It was smooth and flowed effortlessly. I loved that we got both POV's in this book. This book is definitely a page turner and let me tell you, you won't want it to end!!! I couldn't turn the pages fast enough…LOL." Two lost souls drawn together by the scars of the other"That quote totally sums up Lucian and Lia. We don't find out a lot of Lucian's past in this book. I loved that she persevered and became the strong woman she was throughout the book. It was also great to see both Lia and Lucian open their hearts up to each other and saving one another. I am excited to see where their relationship will go from here. I see some serious ups and downs in their future but I truly believe these two can pull through anything as long as they have each other.This is a book I would 100% recommend!!! This book had it all, laughter, steam, suspense, drama and sorrow. This book will have your heart beating a mile a minute for many different reasons!!! If you are a fan of Sydney Landon…you don't want to miss this book. But again if you don't like cliffhangers…this is a book to hold off until at least book 2 comes out

That being said, I'm also glad I waited- so the wait for the next in the series won't be so far away. HOLY WOW! I have read a lot of Sydney Landon books in the past and they were all great, this was no exception.The book follows the story of Lia and Lucian, told in dual POV (though mostly Lia's). They both have a troubled past and see the pain in each other. To say that Lia's home life growing up was less than ideal is a vast understatement. I wanted to jump into the book and karate chop her mother, more than once. Lucian admires her strength and the fact that she argues with and stands up for herself to him. Lia is curious as to why someone like Lucian (successful, sexy and smart) would want someone like her. He can't keep her out of his thoughts and it is driving him crazy- no woman has had this effect on him. When she tries to get closer to him, he pushes her away.When they run into each other again, there is no keeping their hands off of each other. From there, the relationship only deepens and grows. Lucian starts to open up a little. However, when a threat from Lia's past resurfaces, things get ugly. AND holy mother of all cliffhangers that is where the story ends! I wanted more! I absolutely can not wait for the next installment in this series.

The things that Lia had to endure and the glimpse of what Luc did. The discovery that they were both screwed up but maybe they were put together for a reason keeps going off in their heads. You can feel the love he has for her but has not figured out yet or is afraid to admit. The ending was scary as hell I cannot believe Sydney did that to us! I cannot wait for book 2

Since there is so much hearsay involving the story of Mary and Joseph from the bible, it is possible for an author to create what they believed to have happened, but few could pull it off; however, that is exactly what JB Richards did.From the beginning it was clear through the author's writing how passionate she was about her story and her concepts. Since her story is meant to travel across multiple novels, she made sure that she had enough of a story and information to do so. I thoroughly enjoyed her insights and feel that even someone who does not believe in the bible, or isn't religious, would find enjoyment in it. The book is not about religion, but about story, and that is what made it brilliant.Since the book is in the first person, the reader is automatically drawn into the novel and the story. I liked that the story was from the perspective of Miriamne and how it drifted away from traditional stories to incorporate the author's imagination. Richards has the required talent of any historical fiction author, which is to transform history and make it their own, and she does it with ease. I did not feel that she was "stealing" from history, or straying too far from the setting and time period that she chose so that it was unbelievable; instead, I felt that I was reading something new that was also educational, and it was a novel that I would refer to readers of all ages. The novel was easy to understand, but not juvenile, and is perfect for those who are fond of myths and histories. I look forward to reading the rest of this series, and working with JB Richards was wonderful. She is clearly passionate about her work, and it enhanced my enjoyment of her novel. Historical fiction buffs are sure to enjoy this, and I highly recommend it.

In addition, the family comaraderie that exists between the elder brother pranksters (James, Simeon (Simi), Judah and Joses), the first family of Joseph bar Jacob, and their respective wives, and Yeshua (Jesus) and Sali (Salome) is delightful to behold, complete with colorful conversations, horrendous jokes, and much laughter; they are open, they are genuine, they are real.When Miriamne, the middle child of Commander Micah and Salome, meets the Seraph, Raziel, and experiences visions of the past, she comes to understand what Joseph bar Jacob bar Mathan means when he references Yeshua as being the Gift, capable of channeling the Power of HaShem. So, too, was Yeshua a bodhisattva, meaning an enlightened being.The research, the understanding, the dedication that has gone into this work, to make it as authentic, as real, as plausible, as creditable, as possible is simply astounding; you feel as if you are watching a movie about these people living during this time. Gallimore If imagination makes the writer then this author is in the game. She places the reader in the Holy land in such a picturesque way that one can feel the dust on your feet, and the sand in your sandals as you walk along with the traditional New Testament icons you were raised with. If you've ever imagined what is not in the Bible about its star performers the author gives you permission to enjoy their childhoods, and ongoing emotions, that the apostles left behind in their portrayals. Readers that know these two thousand year old saints intimately will appreciate the author's own knowledge , and attention to research and details that match what we know. She allows the reader to go beyond the few lines in the history books and be a witness to the world they live in. This story is like a long tour to the Holy land without the expense.

His grip with fear and death, expressed in prose, have been his personal return from the hell of post traumatic stress. He gives no glorification for war and takes his God serious without reservation. He claims his actions to be no different in combat then all corpsmen so charged with tending the wounded and giving last rites to the marines who couldn't be saved. As written in one of his poems; he states that his scars from wounds are a reminder that what happened was real. His life story is the vehicle for his prose.

He is a decorated war veteran, awarded two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star, Presidential Unit Citations, as well as Navy and Marine Corps Commendations. He retired a Navy Chief Corpsman, and served 22 years with the U.S. Postal Service.

Going into the military to find family, friends, shelter, a purpose in life, and even a livelihood makes sense. From what I have gathered, this writer strove for making things better. What more can any of us do?A good read. “Weeping” sad, yet hopeful of a better future.

Robbed of a boyhood, Kraft ran away from home at fifteen and worked his way through high school. In 1957, at the age of eighteen, he enlisted in the Navy and went on to serve twenty-two years on active duty. Introspection and compassion are Kraft’s strongest attributes—and also his most powerful enemies. He clearly expresses the fear he felt about combat and his nagging concern over providing proper care for the wounded and dying. The book is a collection of Doc Kraft’s prose and poetry. The poems parallel and re-emphasize the messages in the prose stories. At times, the prose takes on its own cadence and grows more emotion-laden than the accompanying poems. This style prevails in the Prologue in which Kraft labels his memoir as “a book of fiction” and delivers a grim lesson: “War is without morals, regardless of who is holding the weapon. The dying aspect is all that’s left for clarification. There can be no glory in dying for family and there can be no glory in dying for a war.” Wounded twice in Vietnam, Kraft developed a front-line knowledge of death with the 2nd Battalion of the 9th Marines in Leatherneck Square. In wrapping up his Vietnam War experience, Kraft presents one-page explanations of field gear, monsoons, sanitation, alcohol, combat patrols, helicopters, doctors, chaplains, and others. Although much of this can be found in many Vietnam War novels, memoirs, and history books, Kraft includes several short biographies that qualify as priceless reading. Kraft—a member of Vietnam Veterans of America—retired from the Navy in 1979. He then endured bouts with leukemia (from Agent Orange exposure) and PTSD. The latter initially overwhelmed him in 1998, and he has never rid himself of the fear of not having done enough to keep others from dying or suffering pain. Kraft describes the effects of PTSD to a depth that is as enlightening as anything else I have read on the topic. "Pursuing Paul" gave me a fresh and enhanced appreciation of this great servant of God By John Carmichael I had previously read J Hand’s first book, “Jeremiah’s Journey”, and thoroughly enjoyed it, so I ordered his new novel about the apostle Paul. J. Hand is a judge and a former Federal criminal investigator. As he describes in the preface, he applies his unique professional experience using standard deductive techniques to flesh out plausible details not explicitly given in Paul’s letters and the other Biblical references to his ministry. Mr Hand merges these details with the scriptural record and arranges it all in chronological order. The result is a far more personal and coherent biography of the apostle’s incredible ministry than can be derived from reading only his letters. The book could have benefitted from using a professional proofreader as there are numerous grammatical and spelling errors, but these did not detract significantl y from my deriving a fresh and enhanced appreciation of this great servant of God.

The Author’s creditable experience as a criminal investigator and an obvious student of the bible takes the liberty of filling in the political and religious challenges that Paul likely faced in an effort to tell the gentile world of Jesus. Although “Pursuing Paul” is a fictional portrayal, the dialog exchanged with the religious hierarchy and ruling political minions present an altogether realistic and true to life drama. The author draws a correlation between the sufferings endured by Paul for his spiritual convictions and the potential hardships that Christians may face in today's political correct self-indulgent society.

The book draws you into it as the author progresses throughout Paul's life, hard to lay book down. Encourages me to trust God for those "thicket tickets". Read the author's background first and then take note of the list of all the characters listed in order to follow them throughout the book. I also highly recommend his book "Jeremiahs Journey", equally fascinating. Enjoy.

By ASH218 More of an amusing tale with good humor and nostalgic lore and memories for those wo are from the diaspora it's set it, than a mystery but it gave the reader a good idea of the character's development after the first book which introduced Rudy Watson to us. I didn't expect the full turn around that brought Rudyand his first love back together at the end and now I'm wondering what will be the next chapter in their lives... So, what's next for then Dr. Cumberbatch, I'll be waiting... :)

If you already know some unity, but want to know how to integrate some iOS specific functionality (i.e. gamecenter, iAds, etc.) this book is also right up your alley. I was able to complete this book over a weekend and had no problems. I'm now confident and ready to add gamecenter to my game and get it on the app store. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who is just beginning Unity or someone that just needs that extra help with iOS specific features. Well written.

The first one should've come with a bottle of ipecac to help purge the nonsense being forced down your throat. This one has a heaping helping of nonsense, too, but it's the kind of nonsense I can deal with. The plot is a little questionable in some places, more rough patches than holes. It helps that there's actually a plot developing this time. Yeah, it's still a bunch of bland archetypes walking around a tiny world and getting weirdly attached to the scenery, but less irritatingly so. In fact, it was dangerously close to 4 stars for me. Luckily, I didn't have to give it that extra star. Big shout out to the entitled cast of characters who think they own a world because they've been playing there for, what, two months? Two and a half? Can't forget the game's progression system that gives roughly equal experience for slaying one monster and completing an end-game quest. It's basically abandoned the whole RPG thing and gone into adventure game territory. LITADVENTURE? LITADV?Moral of the story: I kinda-sorta wanted to hate it, but couldn't. If you can ignore that it's a psych/philosophy case study pretending to be a litrpg, it's not bad.

By Seeker I forgot to check if I had reviewed book one when I picked this one up on my Kindle Unlimited subscription. I didn't hate the first book but I do this one. Enough so, that I had to stop reading around 20% through the story. As others have said, it is more about the psychology of the MC than the game and that isn't what I want. If teenage issues are your thing, then this should be a good book for you. Otherwise, I recommend against the book and the series.

By Amazon Customer Three hundred and twenty seven (327) endless pages of 18 year old male Angst, Uncertainty, Rebellion, Moral Turpitude, Emotional Turmoil and just plain Wimpiness!Such a depressing departure from the first book! What little action in this book was rushed as if it was included by default and not as part of a ongoing growing of the character.Overall, this book brought me to the end of my journey with Mr. Mulder.Just my opinion and worth every farthing you paid for it.YMMV
